New member blah blah blah PBB blah blah blah…..former card holding member of the frameless and shameless turds when I built ZJ’s. I learned my lessons. Kinda.

I figure this would be a good place to start a build thread for my gay ass FSJ.

For the tldr, old rusty garbage on tons and fancy to me used Kings.

1975 Jeep J20 I picked up while in the turmoil of a toxic ass relationship for cheap. Built on the stock frame and body with the standard Chevy 63’s and disc brake 14B out back, and a 05+SD60 on radius arms and 14” Kings. So nothing real special.

To the pics.

Mocked in the engine/trans/t-case and made mounts and a crossmember. I was hell bent on not using aftermarket mounts or something too custom. I wanted factoryish ZJ motor mounts since that’s what donated the drivetrain, which by the way is a 5.2 magnum, 44RE, and NP231 with a wide chain and 6 pinion planetary.

I used a 3 bolt ZJ steering box, and ZJ lines to make turny things happen.

I started modifying the SD60 by changing the bolt pattern, and drilled holes.

I scored some Chevy 63’s and cleaned them up to slightly better than used looking.

Got the standard 14B swap stuffs minus caliper bracket because mine has them factory. Then proceeded to do the cutty grindy stuff. Yes I recentered the axle because I was off 3/4” the first stab. Also, tons are heavy as fawk.

I got the mounts made up for the CO’s. Yes those are air shox, no I didn’t use them, I had them thinking I was gonna get away with them. I was wrong. Lessons were learned. I swapped to Kings I found on the interwebz for cheap. 2.0x14’s.

After the fab work was done, I did all the wiring by using a ZJ fuse box for power to the drivetrain. I got it starting and running by tying into the factory FSJ wiring so it would start off the column.

I proceeded with a little more booty fab mounting a radiator from griffin, did new lights, and a sketchy flex in the shop with a engine hoist.

I drove it around after I made it street legal, and for some reason, piston #4 decided it didn’t wanna play anymore. Junkyard fresh engine went in and I haven’t looked back.

I cleaned up the grill, found out why the engine was eating oil regularly, and painted the wheels white……to be classy.

Then I decided to make a bumper/winch mount. And threw on an older series 12 Warn, because it was better than the turd 9500 I was working with in the mock up stage. Also, I made a huge ass boner bar, just to annoy people with…..it has been successful thus far. I also showed up to one of the local “truck meets” to flex on a squatted kids truck, just for the stupid times.

I also need to say this “build” wouldn’t have gotten this far without the help of a fabricator named Keith Vinson. He has taught my newb ass a lot in metal fabrication.

Told you yours would be drivable before mine. Showoff.
