Technology you hate

Tech in general.

Always seems like no sooner than I learn how to do something with it it changes. Maybe it wouldn’t be so much a issue but tech has never really captured my attention do it’s always a struggle for me.

I can learn how a engine or transmission works but when something changes the way it works every 8 months but still does the same thing it’s frustrating.

Bluetooth aucks but I can't live without it anymore. Crazy touch screen radios in newer cars.. i love my $20 aftermarket stereo in my dodge that has am/fm /Bluetooth only. Easy to use and cheap to replace when it breaks

You should learn how to make your text not purple. Purple adds nothing to the discussion, and makes you seem like a complete Nancy.

They used to make the perfect thermostat: mercury switch on adjustable bimetal spring.
Economical,100% repeatable, 100% reliable, easily calibrated, near-unlimited lifespan.
Obviously had to be outlawed - thanks RoHS :shaking:

I have a mercury thermostat.

What I miss on it is the mechanical turn-timer which was also near 100% reliable. There's a reason people still use mechanical timers in the kitchen. It's instant setting and good enough.

I want to skip it all straight to a WiFi programmable thermostat on an app. I don't mind that and think it's a great use for tech. You can lay in your bed and turn the heat up if you wake up early.

All the different manufacturers come up with their own bullshit HVAC controls trying to be cooler than the other guys, but everyone knows it was perfected in the 70's with the 4-slider setup that nearly every car used for 20+ years...

I want this heater control:

In this dash:

And I want it on every vehicle I ever own for the rest of my life.

This is the greatest cheap China tech thing ever developed and it always will be:

I don't think anyone else in the world can make a $3.74 instant-read digital thermometer, and if we reduce China to just this, I would be happy.

I hate all emissions related items on any engine.

It should be only clean air and fuel in and only exhaust straight out, just as god intended. No recirculating shit no filters or mufflers or injectors in the fucking exhaust. Its sad Diesels use to be considered reliable, now you are better off with a gasser or if its a big truck something old.

Just fawkin straight pipe EVERYTHING!

I like my mufflers.

I like when I hop in a different vehicle and do the lights instead of the wipers because why should basic controls be on the same side of the steering wheel universally?

Cell phones. I think once this one dies, I may just do away with it altogether. Just use one without a SIM card to use offline for GPS.

Fucking senseless beeping from appliances. Stupid Samsung washing machine, dryer and dishwasher feel the need to play a little tune when you start them and when they are done.

Get up this morning and start the coffee and throw some left overs in the microwave. Go for a dump and get to listen to both of them beep, beep beep over and over when they finish. WTF it's not like they are going to do anything when they finish did somebody really think I need a fucking reminder that the coffee is ready?

Electronic home door locks. They aren’t humidity proof, and cost way too much for as little as they last. Replaced the junk with a Lockey mechanical keyless deadbolt and haven’t had any issues.

touch screen scan tools. Scan tools with 10 inch screens.
Snap on zeus

Why do i have to speak to my truck to get to blue tooth but there is button for the cd player...

Or i start the truck it plays for about 3 seconds and then pauses..wtf

The stock Bluetooth system that was in my wife’s 4 runner was terrible. Pretty much was you described above.

2015 toyota sienna.

Would somebody please fucking spoon-feed me how to disable the seat belt chime AND all of the "door open" chimes.

Doing something with the rear or side doors open and fucking beep beep beep. Tell me where and I'll drill a fucking hole in the beeper if I have to.

I hate any software "Update" that moves the knobs and functions around to improve something. It's like hide and seek. Well, you USED to know how to make an Excel sheet but now with our helpful update we have turned it into a scavenger hunt!:rasta:

No Shit!
I like my 85 a lot better than the 98 sitting in the driveway.

edit: coffee is apparently not helping today. Ment to quote someone who said he likes his 82 yota better than a 2019

This drives me crazy. Wife bought a little air fry oven and it beeps multiple times when it comes on, when it warms up, a few minutes before it's done, and when it's finished.

I hate bullshit auto technology, but I do love being able to punch numbers into the door of my ferd. The key literally has not been out of my '04 f-150 since I bought it from the stealership.

Agreed, that is cool. But pushbutton combination locks aren't really new tech.

I don't really know how this works, but I've always wondered what it does to the life of a starter

It’s a nonissue for the starter, because it’s not used. The alternator becomes a motor and spins the belt to restart the engine. It’s pretty cool how it’s done.
