More home projects.. I bought an adapter, but its wobbly when attaching to the wall side. Tightened up, but it leaks when tested.

Upon looking closer, it seems like the male threads on the wall side are tapered, but the tip of it looks like a flare. Threads fine,

What kind of fuckery am I dealing with?

For now I lit up the leak with a lighter so its like a small pilot light, this way house doesnt gather unburnt gas.

:flipoff2:

I don't know what the fuck that is. It sort of looks like a flare fitting. IMHO: Change the valve and use some good pipe dope. :smokin::smokin::smokin::smokin:

assuming you're using it as a flare fitting?
those stainless flex pipes don't seal good unless it is in really good shape, not a lot of squish in them unlike a flared copper connection

does the nut run down the threads all the way or does it stop before it seats?
There's a few places that mix up a straight threaded nut with tapered threads, like hydraulic NPT swivel fittings.

Rule of thumb.... Replace the flex pipe every time you disconnect. New appliance = new flex pipe. :smokin::smokin::smokin::smokin:

the flex pipe is about a year its, its like new.

That's a FIP x Flare fitting, used for going from a pipe nipple to a gas flex line.
What you need is a female flare x male flare fitting, in the correct size to accomodate your new gas flex line.
or one of these;

You would need to shut your gas supply off to install the new valve.

thanks, was afraid that might be the case. Not a huge deal I guess

Change the valve and replace the flex. It's cheap insurance.

Also, purge the line and relight all pilot lights when done and leak free.

I do like how we have a post by post breakdown of the OP burning his new palacial CA estate down
Do he live in Sacramento hopefully :smokin:
Op the gas valve should be female ip x flare nut. Mip outta wall flarenut to flex pipe...
You need NO adapter, if you do.
Replace it all from wall outlet to appliance

or plumb it with flared copper because that stuff lasts forever
In the early 1990s dad hard plumbed the fucking washer because he was short a hose that day or some shit, I never asked. That shit shook every spin cycle without leaking a drop for nearly 20yr before being done "properly" when the washer got replaced.

well iron does have some flex to it if you're running long enough sections, but I do like to use soft copper for gas stuff.

This was normal 1/2 copper. He screwed a hose spigot right into the back of the washer and got to soldering from there. 3ft down into the crawl space and 10ft across the bathroom floor to where it tee'd off the main line. So yeah, nice long run, kind of best case for something like that.

what size should the flare end be on the gas valve?

at least we know were you got it from!

Pipe wrenches! I sware they breed! I sold off a mess of fuciking wrenches at the GF yard sale. Still have a dozen fucking wrenches! I am not a plumber! They take up room and when you have gotten rid of them; you need two! :homer::homer::homer::homer::homer:
