Synthetic winch line repair tools

Rope fid and knowledge. That's about it. Maybe a lighter to melt the end of the rope after you cut it, and some gorilla tape to hold the end together.

The type of fid depends on the size/type of rope you have and the methods you use. But it doesn't need to be more than a $10 basic fid. Literally a hollow tube with a point on one end.

I always just used a Bic pen and some tape, that fast fid looks interesting though. I lost count the amount of ropes I've fixed or put ends on over the years.

I use my fast feed a lot.

I have standard feeds and this is a big time saver.

I've used ink pens and hollow knitting needles and in a pinch wrapping tape on the end to try to get it small enough to thread inside. Stuffing a 3/8 winch line in is a hassle. This works far better.
It does work very well. I have 2 now, one in the shop and one in the jeep. I also have a few nylon small needles to switch lock the tail with some thin nylon cord.

If you learn the McDonald-Brummel eye splice technique, you won't need to lockstich the eye, and you won't need to remove the entire rope from your winch (like the standard locked Brummel eye splice).

I find it valuable because it doesn't require something that can be hard to find or that can break/wear out (like the thing nylon cord you mentioned).

Also, found a picture of a wire fid. Again, I find this useful because you can almost always find wire wherever you are.

I just followed what Sampson recommends for maximum splice strength. None of those items are hard to find, nylon cord has last as long as the line has. I just got a bit fancy with the stuff I have as it makes it easier. As mentioned a bic pen and tape would work.

interesting method of splice there, there are alot of ways to do it.
