What's new

SxS Picture Thread!

Another afternoon cruising some old and some new spots. Not my thing, but either some big white tail or elk hauling away from me.

A quick putt on Saturday to meet my buddy at the joint in randsburg. About an 80 mile round trip. More water in the desert than ive seen in ages. It wasn't supposed to rain til 1pm, but it started as we were leaving at 10 and turned into a torrential downpoar the rest of the day. We made it to our destination, grabbed some drinks and some food from a local place (town is very offroad friendly) and warmed up a bit. We scored some large full length trash bags and make some slickers out of them, and much to the chagrin of my wife and the other two passengers, i now had the green light to aim for the puddles on the way home. Didn't miss a single one with the deepest being between 18-24 inches. I had a ball.

dry lake bed. Parts had between 6-8 inches of standing water in a few hours.

We went on a ride out of Taft MT 2 weeks ago.

Awesome.

How deep of snow were you guys into? That's a lot of potential issues with that many carts on tracks! How many made it through the day without track issues?

Only ask because it seems like everybody I see with tracks in deep snow have issues. I'd love to have a sxs with tracks, but think I'd have nothing but problems with them for what I'd do with it.

With the Polaris machines, belts are an issue. My rig is the red YXZ on the left.
I had the tracks on my 2016 YXZ for 2 full winters, and they have been on this machine 3 winters. I bent one idler on a rock and that is the only failure I have ever had.
I would say most track issues are due to neglect. Look the machine over before you go and make sure your brackets and mounts are tight.
There really is no limit to the depth, as long as you have a good base down. When you get into 12"-18" of powder, it gets a little tough to go.

Picked up a baby Ranger 500 for use around the farm (21 acres). Never been interested in sxs before but it is surprisingly fun. Not fun enough to give up my dirt bikes though :flipoff2:
My first sxs was a Ranger 400 that I bought to use on our acreage. It was gutless but man was it handy. Pretty much bulletproof too. Unfortunately that has escalated quite a bit to the machine I have now.

That's because you bought a 500. :flipoff2:

Ok fair assessment :flipoff2: Part of buying the 500 was so the woman and child don't kill themselves running around in it. They ran thing for almost 6 hours straight on Sunday after I unloaded it just cruising around and knocking out a bunch of smaller chores like picking up trash in the fields/woods and moving shit around.

Also cost. Holy shit they get expensive quick

One of the last rides before it gets too hot out here to do much. Took a ride to my buddies, and we left from his place in a little town on the outskirts of Edwards AFB, and the trails wound us around the backside of the world famous willow springs racetrack. Since it was Saturday n there was a lot of great road course action going on, cobras, panteras, gt350s and 500s were flying around the track. The views were spectacular, and got to sit and shoot the breeze with some of the camera crew for one of the bigger race based you tube channels. Coming out of there is about 1000ft gnarly loose climb that takes you to the top of the biggest peak on the valley floor, that let's you take a 360* degree view of the entire Antelope Valley. From there, we left and went to a little sports bar and had some beer and wings. Pretty awesome day all around. Wheeling, racing and a sweet dinner. Anyway, enjoy.

Went out on some forest roads and happened across this. Not quite sure how they ripped both front tires off the rzr. Nothing technical. I dont know how far they had the buggy on there, but I am impressed that they even got an empty trailer to that point. They left the winch cable still attached to a tree, shovels lying around and a dewalt chainsaw in the back of the rzr. I was happy to use their chainsaw. It saved me a bunch of work with my handsaw to clear a path around.
The fox was too interested in whatever dinner was in the bushes to worry what we were doing

What a weird scenario

Donner party of.....

strange that they had a winch on the Jeep and didn't recover themselves and keep going. Were they headed in the direction of pavement or deeper into the woods? Maybe the winch was a new addition and didnt work?

It was a long, narrow way out either direction. I dont know where they loaded up the rzr, maybe they thought it would be easier going that direction. I would say they were in the middle, but it also depends which way they took out.
My wife made a FB post and they said the driver was picked up the previous night and people were headed up. Not many more details. All the Karens started chiming in, so she deleted the post.
We coiled the winch rope and hung it on a mirror and picked up the shovels, so I didnt have to drive over anything.
We hadnt been on this trail before and it crosses behind a ski resort, we could see the buildings. Maybe there is a road that goes up there and makes an easy drive down the other side. We'll have to check that out in the future.
I dont like to go over there on weekends. Those towns get overrun by everyone getting out of the valley.

There is a large Forest Service road that runs across the mountains from the west (Council) to the east (Cascade Reservoir). Lots of smaller roads/trails that shoot all over. Plus, once we get over, West Mountain road has access to Cascade, Donnely and McCall.
We want to expand on that to include some of the stuff from ridebdr.com
