SxS general discussion thread

Any idea if there is a "ride height" spec for this chassis?

I bumped the pre-load collar to the first notch because it looked low...
But I'd really like to have it right.

You should be able to find ground clearance specs for that machine in the factory literature or online if you don't have the owners manual

So then I just have to make some assumptions about new/old tire size etc.?

So.... Academic question

If I spray dry giggle gas at altitude does OEM fuel table respond to the increase in MAP, or is there a increase in MAP?

Doubt it, these SxS's use crude EFI systems. NX sells a kit for the Talon and it has a fuel solenoid on it.

Only problem with that is some SxS tires run wildly different in heights vs what they say on the sidewall so be very careful choosing and do lots of research online before ordering anything.

SLOWPOKE693 to wife: "Hey babe. Turns out your in yard roll/flop tweaked the frame pretty bad. So it order to fix this here unit, we should just build a KRX tube chassis...after all it's only Couple bends, couple welds, couple wires. Easy peasy..." :homer:

It's like you know me....

Slowpoke "I'm keeping it stock" 693

You too.

:flipoff2::lmao:

I'm cheap too. The Roxor is tempting for me because a willys that needs everything is getting expensive. With a tune the Roxor does highway speeds. It has D44s. It isn't 75 years old.
I was looking for info on slow rock crawling in a SXS and started thinking about the Roxor. There is a few parks near me that don't allow trucks and tons of utv only trails in WI and MI. Wondering if a roxor would be a fun thing to build up like a Jeep but bring anywhere... Anybody been in one moving? I sat in a used one for sale in 2020 and all I remember is it was small and uncomfortable lol

local guy in my small town has one. I dunno how many miles he has on it but he drives that fucker everywhere like a Jeep. I have seen him 6-7 miles north of town running down the 2 lane state highway with it. Nothing but a SMV triangle on it.

I have watched a few YT videos on guys rock crawling them in Moab. Seems to be about like wheeling a stock CJ7, only diesel engine.

Could be a fun loophole? for me to get wheeling closer to home.

Is low gearing and crawling slow a thing in any mainstream SXS? Everything I see is mini rock bouncer or pretty tame in grippy rock out West

I have a Rock and Trail RZR and that is what I prefer. Crawling and trail riding. I have about 4500 miles on my RZR and over 500 hours so most of my riding is 8-9 mph.

You guys looked like you were having a good time at SMORR, I'll have to research them more to see em crawling

You think a place doesn't allow Jeeps would allow Roxors?

I can see a Ken/Karen getting really pissy about that.

The place that I bought and built my Samurai exactly how I wanted for:

Posted this less than a month from dropping in a 1.6 and new gears lol

They are SXS/UTV/ATV/Bikes only, assuming a roxor would qualify? Sucks cause I used to pop out once a month and now it's 2-3 times a year and a planned deal/no day trips anymore. I just want to get out in the woods but if I can't get on the big rocks outside the midwest it is tough to justify.

Edit: Fuck those two, too:laughing:

Buy a KRX if you want to rock crawl, it's the only SxS specifically built for rocks and can take the abuse without significant upgrades. Its not the fastest SxS out there but it would smoke a roxor in a drag race and a top speed run so there is that. I put 35" tires and skidplates on an otherwise stock KRX and this thing will go places and climb things it shouldn't. I was skeptical when I bought this back in September but after kicking the shit out of it for a few months I'm a firm believer. I love this thing!

The ES models with the Fox Live Valve suspensions are worth the extra money. If you shop for a 24 with the 25 models coming out soon you can score them for base model OTD prices like I did. :smokin:

I'm just not sure how that works.
Example (good or bad) might be a rock bouncer or just ANY tube buggy. Why wouldn't that be the same as Roxor?
See how that works? Does it need a certain MSO to claim ATV/UTV etc. ?
Might be a reason to vin swap a Buggy, "no sir this isn't a Jeep at all, it's a RZR I made a new frame for, of course I put a LS in it with 14 bolts..."

I saw your vids and that looks like a great time! Plus all the wild racing stuff. I'm so used to tearing around though and finally got into appreciating the slow technical stuff that always looked boring till I saw it in person.

Seems like its all about momentum, which is awesome but around here it just feels like muddy ravine dunes lol.

The new owners are taking money from the state on a grant which for 'safety' reasons will not give up the $ if dot approved vehicles are allowed. I've registered my sami as a suzuki sxs in Wisconsin and Michigan hoping the stickers would fly lol.

Called earlier and lady wasn't very helpful but looking into the roxor. She said she knows it had to be titles as a sxs/utv and not originally manufactured for dot use.

My thoughts on the roxor was i could build it out like an old cj style crawler and sneak in. She sent info to her "rep" to find out if it'll work out. I guess gvw has something to do with it too but she didn't know the cutoff...

The leaf sprung Roxor is going to ride like a lumber wagon compared to a regular sxs. And you still can't legally drive them down the road like a Jeep.

I think for what you want to do the KRX would be a very good fit. Like Slowpoke said they are pretty damn tough in stock form, throw a set of 35s on it and go have fun. It won't be the fastest but it'll hang with any of the others trail riding and crawling.

A KRX will slow crawl as slow as you want to go and do it with 18" front and 21" of rear travel. A Roxor has what, 8" at best? On a good day... They are also geared stupid low from the factory and putting 35s on mine didn't change much. How much money do you think you will have to invest into a Roxor after purchasing it to make it trail ready for the slow technical crawling you want to do?

And even if you do get approval to drive the Roxor at the ATV park, how long do you think it will take before people start trying to bring Samurais and Trackers there? They will raise hell and point at you when told no and you will become a target. No offense but I'm sure that park would rather tell you to pound sand and loose 1 entry fee than deal with the constant shitshow you would potentially create riding there.

Since it's not my $, just send the Roxor to Jesse Haines for all the blingy parts (portals etc) that put on on that Roxor that somehow raced in 4600 Stock class. Will crawl/climb like a billy goat then!

I'm thinking if he had an extra $50-75k laying around we wouldn't even be having this discussion.

And Jesse raced that in the right class. We all know a Roxor is not a SxS regardless of what the title says.

Dave said it races so it races.

I love never seen a sport sxs going slow like a geared down crawler. Point of bringing up the roxor was just to have truck like fun at a utv place. We've offered VA fundraisers/cancer awareness events at 0 cost just to get trucks back for a day and they won't budge.

I will see what I can find about the krx crawling, that would really be perfect to bring the fam along and as Wades_76_cj7 said, not have a 1940s jeep ride quality.

I'm just staring at my sami and really want to make it a buggy but I like it too much how it is to justify it
