The old 92 chevy 3500 work truck finally let go of a head gasket at 421 thousand miles. The local shop said they'd do the heads and put them back on for 1800 dollars but no warranty with that many miles, so instead i'm looking for a long block to put in it. I know i can go to autozone, etc. and just get one, but any better suggestions of where to shop?

Why not pull, take it to a local machine shop, and get it rebuilt 60 over with a 3/4 cam? :flipoff2:

Aside from the very last, I'm actually very serious.

I'm not really opposed to that idea, I love the truck for sentimental reasons if nothing else, and so does the owner of the company, but the apparent ease (me doing the engine swapping) of a roughly 2000 dollar crate motor seems to be where his mind is at. If i could get this one rebuilt for that kinda budget I'd be all for it. I've already talked the owner into just eating the core charge and letting me have that block to rebuild myself, because I used to help my uncle build engines and stuff as a kid, but never done one myself, and want to blueprint and build that one back. Time is somewhat of the essence though, not waiting months for me to rebuild it.
