Stubborn Bulldog hitch

I have a 2006-ish trailer with a bulldog hitch. The hitch has become hard to open -requires a screwdriver to pry it open. I’ve sprayed it with WD-40 and have worked it and it isn’t much better. Any suggestions?

Spray it with pb blaster or another thing that is more penetrating and less water displacing

Then add grease

Dip a shitty paint brush in some used motor oil and lather it in there.

I broke out the torch and used a little capillary action to lube the pivot pin with ATF. That seemed to help. Hopefully it will be better when it cools down.

Now to fix the dragging brake that made the hub temperature 250 degrees. 😳

When the wheel sizzled after I poured my water bottle on it is when I got a little nervous about having another 100 miles to go

I've noticed if you bang the front of the hinge on the ball backing up you can smear the upper/lower slots that puts friction on the hinge and makes them susceptible to rust.

1/2 atf 1/2 acetone is what my machinist grandfather loved to use for everything like this
