What's new

Stop project shopping?

I've been resisting... and my son keeps giving me shit, which makes me resist more.

I somehow am able to limit myself when it comes to vehicle projects but I have now 7 engines that "just need put together" in the shop...

My dad lives through my project fleet, cheaper for him that way. Every time I talk about upcoming auctions with Dad at their house Mom chimes in that I don't need more cars. "Maybe I don't, but you two do." That gets her riled up.

And screw you to the guy that posted the IH honey hole only a few hours from me. I really need to get the shop built before dragging anything else home.

Right after I post this is 67 Chevelle 327 4 speed shows up runs needs a lot of work 8K, but not rotten. Fortunately for me I guess I got 2 feet of snow in the last day or so and can’t really deal with it it it’ll be gone by noon😳

Who said
With age comes wisdom :lmao:

But
I've allways been in yer boat, finally got to the point of '

"Fukkit I've got some cool toys"
Thus I need to maintain the current stuff:smokin:

Should have spent $ on existing projects but, fear of missing out had me dragging home a “rare” manual T5 Volvo wagon. Only cause I liked the 850glt I drove a few times.
Yes. FOMO on used cars is a real thing. Dumb in my case, but real. 66 Chevelle was sold in a couple of hours so that is ok.

Bought a CJ5 today to keep it out of the wrecking yard. No need for it, but sitting next to my shop is a better fate than the crusher

I love CJ's even though I really don't need one anymore. Good catch.

Needs an engine and trans and the frame is cracked but those are minor details.

I somehow avoided picking up a scrap price cj a few times.

One of these days.

I make better bad car guy choices.
Just Added an 04 Sequoia Limited to the family. One small rust spot and that's it. Squeezed just out at 6K. There is no North East rot on this truck and i guess it has the recall frame because its in good shape also, I have been kinda wanting one for a while now. Just as i get frustrated and start looking at european cars that id hate life and dislike for my cheap pockets I worked out a deal to grab this. The last 3 of the Vin makes it a keeper for us. "420!":smokin: Common 200K truck issues and I expected Trans solenoids before i went to look at it, the one bad wheel bearing wasn't really a surprise either after looking at the front tread wear.
  • Trans Solenoid's. Had a jerky shift at part throttle.
  • Fresh Trans Fluid and filter. Twice to help flush out the old stuff.
  • Front and rear Power stop Rotors and Towing Pads.
  • Cheap Wheels . The stockers are corroded and the pretty argent finish will absolute cut you wide open.
Lots of dirt under it like it was a farm truck. But not a kids toy in the woods. AC was a can low on charge. The compressor didn't short cycle so i figured why not try a can of ole driveway charge it. After driving it 300 miles I have the following parts on the way;
  • A steering rack (Current one has a weep at the boot after driving it)
  • reman front axles ( I see some fresh grease at the cv boot joints and fuck ever ever ever picking up my CV Joint Cage punch ever ever again)
  • Emergency brake hardware and fresh replacement shoes ( I have no Clue on if i need this but if it does its going on)
  • Stainless steel shorty headers (Because they were cheap on Ebay and the stockers have a loose heat shield.)
  • Full stock replacement stainless steel exhaust (The cats smell eggy after running it hard and they are rusty steel)
  • Front wheel bearings and front knuckles to press the bearings into so i don't fuck with the old shit (One is smooth but loosey goosey)
  • New headlamps from china ( Because i Get Polished, I don't Polish,)
Coming will be an Alpine touch screen , Audio Control 6 Channel amp, MB Quart 3 ways in the doors along with a single JL 12 sub. Once i get the bugs worked out and the wagon finished I'm gonna leave this down south for times when my Mother in Law doesn't feel like riding in my wifes 2020 Mustang. During that time the Mustang will get long tubes, High flow Cats and A full Cat back

Y'all would be proud of me, I've turned down several projects. I've also stopped spending money on projects #4 out, until projects #1-4 are done.

I am still collecting stuff, like this chassis, but it has to be free or previously bought. :flipoff2:

I dragged a complete but rotten 84 4x4 4spd ranger home weeks ago, then I drag most of a rust free 90 2wd 2.9 auto roller home. Plan is to duraspark and 2150 carb the 2.8 drop it in the 90.

So of course I start looking for a 2.9 cause I know a guy with half dozen v6 a4ld’s :shaking:

Still standing strong:flipoff2:
I did spend around $1k on some handtools recently though.

Just yesterday my old corded 1/2" drill gave up the ghost, you can see where this is heading:laughing:.

I will admit to browsing local classifieds now and then.

Still attempting to sell off my stuff and not shopping as much. Seeing more stuff for sale for reasonable. But not wanting to drag much home although I did get a couple of items I needed.

I've still got that 2.3 sitting around. :flipoff2:

I'm holding out, still kinda shopping for another DD, but waiting fit the right one...

Putting a little money into the current dd to stretch out that purchase

Still occasionally look to see how much viper 35k will get me:laughing:

Still focusing on the house remodel

I have vowed to not buy any more projects until the mustang and 88 4runner are done. And the skid steer snd militsry generator.

As if the fates were trying to thwart me, i have recently been given a 2005 Rav4 that needs a motor and a 2012 CRV that needs a bunch of relatively minor stuff. The CRV was given for a $400 shop bill, the Rav4 was from a customer that didnt want it to go to the junkyard.

I need customers like that. I've had several turn me down trying to buy shit for more money than the junkyard pays lately.

Idiots are always out of touch with what the junkyard actually pays for shit.

You're junk collecting garbage. There no saving grace or nobility in that :flipoff2:

Haven’t acquired anymore projects lately… haven’t had any play money. Still want a truck for all the house crap I need to finish… I hate asking to borrow a truck/trailer

Last one dude swore up and down that they were gonna give him $700 for a truck that was going to go straight into the crusher, same yard said 300 when I called the day before.
I have a yard that is my first call for parts. They always pay a minimum of 500 with title and they pick up.

Sure. Ok grandpa. Whatever you say.

If that is in fact what they're doing then they're telling a lot of people who have the title to trashed cars to fuck off. Rusty shit with a rod knock or whatever.

Or they're taking a loss/breakeven when shops send them that shit because they wanna be on shop's good side because parts sales.
