Dam, I recently got a price shocker on some mags I’m looking for to just add to what I have. It’s not like I need a bunch of mags for this firearm but I wanted to add a few to what I currently have.

I own a Remington 7600 in 30-06 flavor I bought in like new condition (had one shot ran through it) back in 88-89. It’s a carbine (short barrel) and I love this rifle. I’ve killed a lot of deer with it through the years and broke all the bogus rumors out there that these firearms aren’t accurate. I don’t use it much anymore as I use a 308 bolt mostly for the last ten or so years now.

So I went looking for additional mags for it just stocking up on them for the versions firearms I own. The mags for the Remington 7600 and the 7400 (760 740 you get the picture) are no longer available new through the mfg. so off to hunt down used ones and that’s when I got sticker price shock. I mean, it’s only a four round mag and new old stock ones still in the oem package are listed at and selling for close to and over $200. Good used ones are for over $100.

The only ones worth a shit are the original all metal ones and the ones with a plastic bottom plate are crap. There are larger mags like 10 rounders available for them but I’m not using something like that in it for hunting deer.

Anyway, just shocked by it is all and definitely didn’t expect it.

I wonder how many other firearms out there have this type of thing going on with them?!?

Keep looking. Egay and junkbroker assholes “ask” that for the mags. I’m doubtful that they sell. I was at a show this weekend and saw a pair for $35 each. I passed them up, as I was after the .308 mags for mine. Had I known…

The thing is they are selling on eBay for around $130 ish for used ones on up. They’re auction type sales not buy it now. The 740-7400 have a button on the bottom side, they typically sell close to $100. They’ll work in a 760-7600 but hold the action open after last shot, press the button allows the action to close is my understanding of it. I’ve no interest in that.

I like gun shows but usually don’t have time to go to them and the last bunch I’ve been to were overpriced stuff. Maybe it’s calmed down right now. I just bought a 1,000 round case of CCI Blaser brass 9mm fmj for $240. $.24 a round I don’t think that’s too bad. Imagine the people who paid over $1,000 for 1,000 rounds a few years ago. So maybe stuff at gun shows are more reasonable now.

Every single gun show I've ever been to is just gougers trying to fleece the flock. I figured I would stop wasting my time decades ago. Yeah, they're fun to go to, not fun to buy from. Every in-bred hill-billy thinks their dark bore chicom SKS should command a premium. And the other half of the issue is the entry fee to have a booth/stall in a big gun show that has to be recouped, not to mention the admission price for the buyers raising the price paid. Most of the booths/stalls just follow the gun show circuit, such as Tanner, with the same old picked over shit packed on a jalopy "Grapes of Wrath" style. I don't think that I am alone either, I rarely see ANYONE leave a gun show with more than a roasted turkey leg.

Around here there are farm auctions that sell firearms, occasionally. Same thing, overpriced and burned out stuff that everybody there seems intent on overbidding on just to say they got something (I suspect the auctioneer has one or two people in the crowd bumping the bid price up). Prices surpassing what an honest LGS would list.

There are certain shows that I make a point to attend. I have no expectations of finding the deal of the century. The show I was at cost $5 to get in and for $7 moreI got breakfast made in an actual kitchen, as the show is in an old school converted to a senior facility. I can’t get a good breakfast in town for $12 at a restaurant.

I primarily shop for parts and accessories. Occasionally I’ll find a firearm for a good price. For instance, I scored an original Colt chrome 601 BCG for $90 and a Ruger factory flash hider from a scout rifle for $10. Those, breakfast and bullshitting with my fried to and from was what made for a great show.

When I had more time, I used to sell at the local shows and I did well. I wasn’t looking to retire off the sale of one thing, I had room to deal and at the last show I did during the scamdemic, I wouldn’t sell to the other dealers. I pissed them off, but they could kiss my ass for all I care.

I told the last sniveler that I would deal with him Sunday afternoon if I still had what he waned. He acted like I was obligated to sell to him before the show. I laughed and told him that I’ve been at these shows since the stupid AWB and that they’re still trying to sell the same shit they have marked “pre-ban” and wonder why they don’t. I laid out the errors of their ways to include over-priced shit, buying all the good deals before the show starts and over-pricing them while wondering why they never sell anything. I never saw an asshole so pissed off, lol! I did very well at that show.

Lol. New brass 9mm can be had for $160 for 1000 rounds.

Had a relative with a lil gun shop that would do the gun shows. When the big gun show would come to town, a few of them would sleep in there as unofficial security. Got to do that with them once. Pretty fucking cool to a 12 year old:grinpimp:

Gun shows were alot cooler IMO when they weren't all tactical.

While I've gotten a few decent deals, they are few and far between. Lost interest in gunshows years ago, for alot of the reasons that you stated.

They used to be cheap. I have 6? Now days when you seem them at random auctions its crazy. That said, they are all the same, the 760/7600, and most calibers are the same mag

You could get a cheap 10 round mag and I weld a block in it to limit it to 4 rounds if that’s why you don’t want it. We do that here because of the hunting regulations.

for the 760?

Be worth buyin a rifle off gunbroker, stealing the mag an then reselling the thing?

happens a lot...buy gun for factory mag, swap out for crappy after market, re-sell...
I got stupid lucky last year when I found a factory 10 rounder for $25. Couldnt get my wallet open fast enough.

I don’t want the bulk of the 10 round mag hanging down under the rifle for one and I’d pay the crazy price for an oem 4 rounder before modifying a large mag.

They aren’t all the same, you have long brass and short brass mags. I’ve not looked at the inside between the two but I imagine the bullet retains lip is different location and the bumper inside is different cast. You can’t have short brass in a long brass mag swimming around.

See that’s the other thing, these rifles have jumped up in price really crazy. If it’s decent, they’re fetching over $3k. Nuts to think I paid $350 for mine in 88/89.

I’ll trade you the original mag out of my 740 in 30-06 for a mag for a Remington Lee in 30-30.

the price of everything in the last 3 years is higher by 30%. add in the rarity of certain firearms and accessories that havent been made in decades?

we should probably be grateful the prices arent higher.
