BC runs their draws stupid late, because fuck the residents. Our draw system allows for group draws for moose. 2 people put in, they get one tag to share. If 3 or 4 people put in, they get 2 tags to share. 4 of us entered, no one knows who got drawn, but we have 2 bull moose tags in region 7-11, Tatuk and Finger lakes.

Hunting party is me, my best friend since 6th grade, D, his fiance T, and our high school buddy that started hunting last year under our influence, K. D is the only one who has shot a moose before. K started hunting last year, but has 2 deer and a bear notched on his stock, and T has only been hunting once. I've hunted my whole life, but only been in on a couple moose as a kid.
K also has a mtn goat draw this year, remains to be seen if we can make it for that one.

The dates for the draw are Sept 10-Nov 5. We are going to leave the island Sept 30, and return oct 11. About 1100km drive each way.

At the same time we are there, there is an open season for 6pt+ elk, and any buck Mule and White tailed deer, in addition to the usual birds, bears, and other predators.

Plan is to stay in a cabin at Tatuk Lake. We will have to bring food and bedding, everything else is supplied. I'd love to have a wall tent set up, but that shit ain't cheap, and it soaks up a lot of storage space in the off-season.

That area has an ATV use for hunting restriction, so rather than quads and bikes, we are bringing an 01 tacoma that's all armored up with a winch, and have a sidekick with bumpers and a winch to drag on a towbar behind my f350. Ford will also have the bumper and winch installed by the time we leave.

Weather in that area at that time could be anything from swimming weather to 6" of snow, so that's a major variable. If it's cold enough, we'll see daytime activity. If it's hot, they're gonna party all night and we will have to hike into a hell hole to find them and drag em out.

Tag and license costs.

The only time I saw a moose is when I came flying around a corner on a mtb trail and it was RIGHT there.
Moral: They are bigger than I imagined and can disappear like magic. Are you sitting in a stand or are you stalking? Not even sure how to hunt a moose. Good luck.

Find a swamp with good sign, and yell like a horny cow moose. I'm a huge fan of finding fresh sign and walking them down. I've snuck up on half a dozen that way. And yeah, they're REALLY fuckin big. Even little ones.

well thats cheap:smokin:
What’s it cost where you are? $25 is a resident license here that covers whitetail, mule deer, cougar, and elk. Most of the state doesn’t have elk, though. Black bear are protected and there are zero moose. We do have pronghorn.

Pretty sure they merge the two together for a slight fee when you get em both. I dont remember though
Upland bird license $34.5
Big game license $34.50

Deer tag $28.50
bear tag $16.50
elk tag $49.50
prognhorn $51.50

They are like bugs around my yard. Couple mornings this winter had 5 or 6 in the dooryard.

Driving 1100 kms seems like alot of time and money to "save" on meat costs.

I made it to goat hunt...

Fuckawf

Couldn't read the novel, I was being ( apparently droll) read:homer::grinpimp::jester: ect.

Pointy end of projectile goes into the breach.
Then after bang , pointy end goes into the prey animal.

Make sure animals that are small car # is dead before getting close.

What part of "fuck the crown " doesn't make sense?

What did you make for goat hunting?

What are you going to use to shoot the moose?

Same thing I shoot everything with. A Remington 710 30-06 with 150 grain winchester silvertips, or if I can't find more of them, I've got a couple boxes of some federal ammo it likes.

Dad gave me that rifle 22 years ago for my birthday, and I've dallied here and there with other rifles, but the ol' trusty rusty just works every damn time. Never shot at a critter and not had it fall down dead yet.

Good call. I was kind of hoping for .35 Whelen or some sort of distinguished metric cartridge that turn of the century British guys used on zebra, but ‘06 is as storied and dignified as anything else.

Dad has a .338 he wants me to take, but it's a savage:barf:. There's a 6.5x55 in the safe too, which is downright Scandinavian, and therefore very moose appropriate, but the trusty rusty is my go to.

Take the 6.5 as a back up. That’s what a Finnish guy would take, and they lead the world in moose killing and drunken knife fights.

60,000psi pushing a 150g bullet is a good combo.

New open season regulations came out. Immature bulls will be open at the same time. Technically, although very unlikely, we could shoot 2 immys on open season, and 2 big bulls on our limited entry hunt. Dunno where we would put that much meat, but it could be done:laughing:

I will glady help with moose meat storage

Good luck on the hunt:beer:

(looking at that boat and the multiple vehicles) You needin' a couple of drivers to take those them cars to Aintree?

Good luck on your hunt.
