Been seeing this pop up more and more…anyone made the switch? Idea is get a cellular enabled smart watch to handle calls and messaging and leave the phone at home. Sounds like the easy way to go back to the dumb phone days with some added in health tracking benefits.

Thats not how smartches work.
Whatcu talking about bout? They can hook into your headphones and make calls, send text via voice so you don’t have to type like an idiot on a tiny keyboard, etc.

If I can make calls, send and receive texts, and stream pandora and Spotify, I could ditch my phone all together. My irate browsing on the shitter time would suffer, but that’s probably an ok thing.

When my ex was in highschool (somewhere around 1996) her mom came to pick her up one day with their brand new cordless phone in the car....

That phone was as useful as your smartch will be if you leave your cell phone home.

Apple claims that you can make calls and send texts without your phone on their cellular enabled watches. I suspect there is still some gotcha requiring you to at least own an iphone though.

Edit:
Yeah, the fine print says your iphone must be on and connected to wifi or cellular for it to work:
2. To receive SMS, MMS, or push notifications from third-party apps on your cellular Apple Watch, your paired iPhone must be powered on and connected to Wi-Fi or cellular, but it doesn't need to be nearby. You also need to be signed in to iMessage on your iPhone to use Messages on your watch.

That’s what I’m trying to nail down…where did that come from? This page sounds like there is no problem doing it.
