After reading through Tiha’s thread about dumping a project and seeing some of the replies, it got me to thinking about myself. Who here has project ADHD? Can’t seem to finish one, or gets too many going at once? My problem is I jump full force into something and end up wearing myself out with it. Couple that with the fact that I’m interested in too many different kinds of vehicles, and I wind up with a garage full of unfinished, unrelated crap. A few examples to keep myself honest:

I’ve got my “nice” Samurai. It needs some bodywork and general tlc. I also need to gear my spare transfer case and throw under it. It is at least a runner, which is why I’m scared to tear it apart and possibly never get it back together

Then there’s the rust bucket Sami I picked up to finally build myself a crawler. That turned into I don’t have time for a serious off-roader anymore and now it’s my wife’s Sami. It’s been sitting about a year and a half waiting on me to finish bodywork, install YJs, and pick out a drivetrain.

A few years ago dad told me to come get his 85 GT he bought new. It’s been sitting and parts scavenged from it since hitting a deer a long time ago. He realized he was never going to fix it. So I sold my coupe (sad face) to make room for this (I don’t even like hatch cars but it’s dad’s so..) Here it is the day I picked it up from the farm. It’s actually a pretty quick little street car under there… I haven’t even started on it.

I also picked up a short wheelbase rail buggy frame a year ago for one of my dream builds. It was free so I jumped on it. I wanted bare frame because plans are a light weight, 200ish hp transverse engine and trans in the back. Suspension and handling goodies all around. I’ll probably never get around to it.

And I’ve got my bike. It’s a runner and I rack up miles on it. But I can never leave it alone. It’s probably the one thing I start and finish on everytime. Last winter it got way too much suspension work thrown at it to be a slow bagger. But I grew up on sport bikes, so I want even this pig to be fun in the twisties. This winter it gets painted.

Theres also the wife’s Nova. It’s an all original showpiece. But it adds to the maintenance and upkeep around the garage.

I sold off all my tracker stuff and quit flipping them. Not much profit in them anymore with vehicle prices as they are. That frees up space and time. I do still have one major pile that I want to hack in half and put a small dump bed on for yard chores :homer:

Yes lol… I even had one of those sand rails. I got sick of the front end having zero weight on it and sliding/pushing in corners so I sold it.

I'm pretty good about projects. I'm like a dog with a bone. I get started and obsesse until it's done. I will how ever take a "short cut" but if it eats at me I'll address it another day.

I’m maybe a little too good about finishing projects and not good enough about using them. I have 4 complete running Offroad rigs right now. Two of them haven’t been out in years.

I do go racing all the time so I use the RZR and Bronco often. The Jeep and the tracker are both sitting in storage and haven’t been out in years

Do you work for cheap? 😝

I have around 10 projects atm, not including house stuff. If my brain worked half as good as most people, I wouldn’t have 10 projects

I'm constantly searching fbmp or craigslist for projects that I can't afford or have time to actually do.

For some reason I really want to build an LS swapped rx8 and those cars are always for sale with dead rotary engines in them. No damn it, work on the truck I have.

A Sammy wheeler looks fun. Would love an old dent side Ford with modern running gear.

Honestly having a mild project I can actually finish and use really helped my motivation on getting other projects done. That mild project was the V8 swap in my Frontier. It needs some more work but at least it is a functional vehicle instead of holding down jack stands for 10 years like my International

I think my problem is that I have way too many projects and I'm buying parts for all of them when the deal is good.

Great example with past week:
NIB Dana 70hd ARB/compressor came up on eBay. Scored it for 650 to my door, did I really need to buy it for my vintage mud truck project? No it's 3 projects down the line.

The sore dick deals gets me every now and then. I'm "buying" 4 fox air bumps for a little under 400 to my door. Some people have been refunded their money but I was only giving a conformation number.

So I just spent over a grand this week on parts for a distant project and parts I didn't have to have.

So here's my current project list:

1)Finish my buddies 55 Chevy pickup, thank God it's almost done.
2) finish my 87 4runner engine swap
3) fix the breaks on my 56 Cadillac and other little things
4) 76 k10 with built tons and a nasty big block, looking for all the 80s flair also
5) do something I think is cool with my new 66 galaxy 500

I've come to terms with some other vehicles I bought and now I'm considering selling them.

Who needs a 59 Chevy panel truck long wheel base?
Maybe 69 Chevy 108 van that had its first life on Moffett field DoD?

No,

I Actually Manage my Projects like work. Working in Manufacturing Engineering/Maintenance has helped me stay on track by implementing the same tactics. Ongoing Maintenance is Reliability Based with a full RE based PM program. So far my unexpected failures have been 2 out of 8 running vehicles in the last 5 years.
Lots of meetings, Pivots, Budget mods, Checklists, Root Cause Analysis, Progress Meetings, ROI expectations with Family etc etc. For in between all of that I tend to use Google Keep and maintain follow up dates, even if there is no progress my updates will explain that and end with a solution and 2 extra avenues that have been extensively ironed out.

Google Keep helps keep it all noted in one place.
