78 3500 4x4 with 16k miles, original fire truck so it was stored inside some rural fire department. Looks like a 360, 727,

wow with only 116 or 216k original miles! amazing!
mileage means nothing unless you're financing your 2 year old used camry for $47k because the dealer says it's a good deal

That truck could very well be a 17k truck. Easy enough to verify by calling the department on the side of the truck. I've seen a few old trucks in the 30k-40k mile range in our local fleets. If you have a rural department that see's 20 calls a year, shit doesn't get used much. Some rural departments are small.

I have seen completely roached out shit boxes go for more than that... It's a good deal, imo. Or at least a fair deal... and that's just as rare lately.

Looks like a 448 judging by the sticker on the valve cover... but i dont know dodge motors

It's a 360. The "448" is the last 3 digits of the engine assembly part number to make it easier for assembly line workers to get the right engine for the vehicle. It could potentially be a W400, which is a bit more interesting than a run of the mill 1 ton.

i was just going to say this has to be a 360. stupid simple and an awesome truck. wish it was closer. would be a great ranch work truck.

It probably has 4.11 gears and 60 MPH top end, I'm guessing full time 4x4 also . Those old NP203 transfer cases sucked ass on pavement. But the fact it looks like a stock survivor makes it interesting. Maybe with a flatbed it would actually usable for something.

Agreed. M715s mostly went to fire departments, and they turn up for chump change with 10-15K on them all the time.

My towns FD has a 63 or so Ford with around 6k miles on it. They dont use it much but they drive all the trucks around town at least once a month to keep them going. Its nice. Plus firetrucks get waxed all the time too.

The '87 1-ton GMC I had and now my son has was a brush truck for a local FD. The FD sold it quite a few years ago, my son is the 4th owner since they sold it, and it still only has about 70k on it. I don't doubt that it had roughly 20k on it when the FD sold it.

Spent last night telling myself I don't need a crusty old flatbed:

If it still had the pump and water tank, and was a functioning fire truck I would be all over that
