I'll try to keep this short so here goes.

I recently moved here from the United Arab Emirates and I've been looking for a Tacoma on FB marketplace for a while now. Right as rain, one pops up that is in my wheelhouse. I immediately contact the guy and to show him I'm serious I offer $2000 more than asking so he knows I'm a serious buyer. I figure I can jew him down a bit if the truck looks good and he will be happy he got close to his asking price.

Anyway the guy only wants to meet in a deserted lot at like 11:30 PM which is an hour away from my house. Since the truck looks good in the photos, I warily decide to make the trip. I called my mechanic buddy to come with me so he can look it over for me and we give the guy a call telling him were on our way.

We get there and it's like meth central. A dark ass parking lot that the dude says is "his business" but it's super sketch. We meet up with the "owner" and he pulls it out of a small garage that looks like a place tweakers stash all their stolen catalytic converters. In between his slurred rants about the truck he keeps moving his mouth like he is chewing on an invisible sandwich. We start chatting about the truck and my mechanic friend asks if he can pop the hood and look around the truck. The owner is super hesitant to let us look at it, but after letting him know if everything looks good we can make a cash deal right now, he acquiesces and tosses us the keys.

Immediately my mechanic friend notices it has symptoms of a blown head gasket. Upper radiator hose is stiff and there is oil all over the engine bay. He tells me that he can fix it for around $3000 at his shop. I decide if I can get it for a good price, it will be worth it and ask to take it on a test drive.

The owner insists on coming with us. He gets in the truck with us and he smells like stale beer, feet, and cheese. I'm pretty sure he's also drunk and/or high. We start it up and before we can even get around the block the truck starts smoking and reeks of burning oil. So we head back to the parking lot.

At this point I decide If I can get it for a song it will be a good deal and I'll have my buddy fix it up for me. So I offer him $2500. Admittedly lowball but with another $3000 to fix it I didn't think it was a bad price. The guy immediately gets real defensive and starts picking at his meth scars on his arms. I felt real sorry for him so I offer him $5K. He physically backs up from us and flashes a knife on his belt. At this point we start looking around the dark lot thinking we are going to get jumped. He backs up to the door of the truck and reaches behind himself, what I thought was him going for a gun.

I tried to tell him the truck is fucked and needs major repairs and at this point he gets some sort of tweaker rage and just starts yelling at us incoherently.

We high tailed it out of there. Since we needed GPS to find our way home, we only drove about 100 yards to get to safety and set the GPS on my phone to take us home. While we were figuring that out the "owner" has some sort of meth fit in the parking lot punching the truck and punching at the sky. He then gets in it and drives at warp speed into the garage bay, gets out and slams the door.

We watched him get into a green saturn with mismatched doors, 3 different wheels and a donut spare on the front, and all the glass but the back passenger window smashed out. He drove off screeching tires over the curb and I'm pretty sure he hit a dumpster on the way out.

Stay clear of this guy.
