Snap ring pliers

Who's got a good recommendation for snap ring pliers? I had a set of the interchangeable tip and they are garbage.. I bought a used set of Blue Point off fleabay a few years ago and they worked pretty well but when I went to use them last night they have disappeared.. The Blue Points were changeable from inner to outer as well which was nice..

So with that said what do you guys like? I have no issue paying for quality stuff but not looking to get on the rape van. (Snap On)

I prefer the ones that lock in place. Not open and close as to squeeze and let go. No recommendations on brand or anything, but that's been my experience. Mine came from HF I think.

this is the style that my BP were.. forged steel tips that dont bend and twist like the little pin interchangeable style.

Thought they were HF. The design works well, but those tips are huge. They barely fit in any of the rings I have.

I like my knipex set.

Not reverse/adjustable but strong german forged steel. Not cheap but well worth it.

First use on a small ring the knipex broke. My solution now is to buy more than you need and hope you have the right one

For the price these are tough to beat. the issue is that they've got one-piece ends rather than a extremely hard (to the point of being brittle) pin pressed into a softer (tougher) steel plier body

means they've got a radius at the point too, rather than the shelf that the knipex ones got

I have 4 different old Snap-On's I bought of E-Bay years ago. Nothing fancy, but they work well.

see how the pokey tip is the same piece of steel as the pliers?
look at the knipex ones, they're a separate pin pressed in to the plier body

Lets you use different materials, and also provides a square shoulder to rest the clip against so it doesn't want to cock nearly so much

Have been rebuilding the Johnny Joints on my rig and these are much better than the Lisle 49200 snap ring pliers that I had been using.

Haven't had any need to use them yet. Am betting they will work better than the Lisle pliers.

I do outboard motor repair for fun and profit.

The OMC lower units have a huge internal snap ring and until I found these I was hating life.

I made custom tips to go on these that were impossible to make work of the pliers type and its now a snap to get the rings in/out.
