I'm looking a used Kubota GL11000 generator. It will be used as a back up generator for my house.

The one I'm looking at has 10,000 hours on it. At what point is something like this considered high hours? How long do these things last. I don't really want something that is going to break down when I need it.

Damn.... 10k hours? That's due for an overhaul. When was the last one done?
My guess is never. It has a 3 cylinder Kubota diesel in it. I don't think people even overhaul these things. They just get replaced.

Probably because they never overhaul them lol. If it isnt pingin and slappin around in there, some new rings, seals/gasket and a cleanup is probably all you need lol

7,000 hours is high hours for most small diesels

I would think "high hours" for a Generator would be less as it sits at 1800RPM with little time at any other speed.

That seems like fuck ton of hours in something you want to rely on to power your house in a time or need
That's my thought also. I just want it to work when I need it.

I also wonder about the generator part.

It'd better be damn cheap with those hours.

You can get a new one for less than 8k.
This one is 0.5K

Nah it’s the opposite the steady state high rpms is actually easier on the engine than a fluctuating speed motor. All mine whenever I open the valve covers are beautiful inside no sludge because they are constantly up to temp and rocking.

I'd rather have something that gets wound out and idled but never gets cool except for maintenance like a cop car or forklift at a 24/7 operation than something that has more cold starts on it.

So I guess it depends on whether the generator was running continuous for a week here and there or if it was a 2hr test every weekday.

My experience is that standby generators can have a ton of hours on them and not be bad off, but actual use generators have a pretty rough life.

shut up and take my money, I'll take ten
The more I look at the ad and the answers I'm getting from him, I'm pretty sure it's a scam. Plus I just came across another ad for the same model generator for the same price in a different part of the state and the pictures are of a generator that looks almost new.

10,000 divided by 24.

416 days running 24 hours a day,So over a year and 51 days.

No clue on maintenance.

I can’t speak for the little kubota, but a little Perkins in a Lincoln welder doesn’t give a shit about 10,000 hours. For 500 bucks I’d buy it.

I got a light tower with 6KVA generator and Kubota 3 cyclinder engine (3990 hours). Barely broken in. And its forsale if your interested!
