I’d like to get some ideas for mounting a single ended ram to my front axle. I have a dana44 8 lug and I know when I find a good deal on a Dana 60 I’ll snag it but for now I’m running a 44. I’d like to see some simple ways to mount it without trussing the housing. I feel like tabs on the tube and a single high steer arm on the driver side would be the way to go but I want to see what others have done. Can you build a heavy duty tie rod and mount to that or is it better to mount to the knuckle? Or can I just beef up the mounts from the stabilizer and mount it there? Trying not to sink a bunch of money into an axle I know I’ll be ditching when I find a deal on a better one.

Stabilizer mounts will not work. They are thin tin.
You'll likely need to mount the stationary end of the ram to the diff cover to get it high enough without a truss. So, add a plate cover to your budget... also need a tube clamp to go around your tie rod unless you just want to weld mounts to it.

I figured the stabilizer mount wouldn’t work but thought it might be worth asking. I’ll look around at fabricated covers. That’s an idea I didn’t think of

For the diff cover mounting, doesn't that have issues with the cover shifting under the load of the cylinder? I've heard of guys running cone washers and locating pins and other hacks to try preventing that movement but ultimately dealing with leaky covers and loose bolts all the time.

Some do, some don't. I personally didn't. I also switched all the hardware out for grade 8 bolts and locking washers. Never even tried to tighten them after owning it for over 10 years :homer:
Was still tight af when i took the cover off to regear for the guy who bought them off me:lmao:
