The Ramcharger needs some rust repair before it falls apart and a clutch sooner or later, but still runs like a top. Sleipnir is getting a leveling kit, some foolishly expensive fender flares and, when I can find some that suit my taste, some aftermarket rims and BFG 35" A/Ts. At that point I think I will be done and will just enjoy it.

It's a 2007 2500CTD with 3" BDS lift, 2009+ steering, Yukon Free Spin kit, 35s, and a couple other doodads. It gets to carry around my Northstar 650SC nowadays. 141k on the clock so far.

How do you like the new CTD... I have been debating getting a 4th gen. Any issues with EGR or DEF?

Mine isn't a Cummins, it's a 5.7L Hemi V8. The only big issues I have see with the Cummins trucks lately is people bringing in modified trucks for service on the very systems they modified. Stupid. I think we did a water pump and thermostat on a '15 with a lot of miles a few weeks ago. Most of the Cummins trucks that come through the shop are just for oil changes or some sort of recall.

I had a 2018 mega cab and no problem with egr or def but I traded it for my 1500 and had low miles I loved the diesel but didnt need it anymore. It also had the Asin transmission in it also were alot of people do the the 68 trans so they can throw a tuner on it and adjust the transmission also no tuner is able to do anything that I know of that gets into the aisin transmission yet.

2018 3500 aisin mega cab, waiting on 2.5”kings, Thuren goodies 4.10’s, 17” wheels and 37toyos

Black 2001.5 3500 Cummins 6 speed. I bought new in April 2001. Love it and don’t think I will ever sell it.

2017 4500 is my work truck and bird dog hauling rig. Deleted and tuned at 5k miles. Has 80k trouble free except for eating water pumps.

How do you like the 1500? I have my 2nd gen now, but that damn thing just died on me again this morning (though I think i have figured out why)

I have been wanting a new truck, and think I want a diesel, but don't currently tow anything. Though I see boats, travel trailers/car trailers being towed in the near future <2yr.

Unless you tow several times a month, something substantial - no lawnmower trailers, then a diesel isn't worth it, in my opinion. The $400 oil, oil filter and two fuel filter changes would get real old very quickly. I tow a car trailer a couple times a year, the 5.7 will get it done just fine and considering the cost difference, I won't mind pulling the occasional mountain in the slow lane. Just my. 02

400 bucks? Is that the DIT rate? Lol. Damn.

curious too... any fears of the new CP3 in the 2019’s up.

i need to go drive a 1500 gas and see how it is. Might change my mind.

Honestly, if I charged list price, it's over $500. Granted, I am a Parts Manager at a dealership, so that's pretty much as bad as it gets, but it is genuine Mopar filters and Rotella oil. I do have to discount the parts for regular maintenance stuff like that just to stay a little competitive. The "genuine parts" thing only goes so far, but any way you look at it, it's expensive to buy and maintain a diesel. I like my 5.7L because it's cheap. With the Flowmasters it sounds like a lot more than it is, but the 383HP and 4.10s are enough to get it moving respectably. The 6.4L is a better engine, but it also requires synthetic oil, which also raises up the cost of maintenance. I probably still would have picked a 6.4 if I had the option, but I bought Sleipnir used with 23k miles, so I got what it had as it sat on the lot.

As for a 1500, I don't think I could drive a 1500. They are ok and have a lot of nice features, but I absolutely despise the Chrysler 9 1/4" rear axle. Plus, they ride like a minivan and I just don't fell comfortable in them. Some say my 2500 rides rough, but to me it's just right and way better than my '88 Ramcharger. But the 2500 just feels like a truck should to me, while the 1500s are more like a car with a bed. To me, IFS belongs in a 2WD. Again, just my .02

I dont mind the 1500 it does what it needs to do just driving back and forth to work and run the kid around and trips to menards for lumber. I have been looking at the power wagons if I went back to the 2500 with the 6.4 if I was towing lighter stuff as the power wagon has a lower towing cap than the regular larmine 2500 but that's because of suspension but once I need to tow real shit I will go back to the 3500 or say fuck it and buy a older peterbilt and be done with it and buy a srt durango since I wont tow with it if I did get a peterbilt.

Anyone that pays $400 for an oil change is higher then giraffe pussy. I change my oil and fuel filters for under $200 using T6 and mopar filters, oil change intervals being 15k I think that’s pretty damn reasonable.

My 16 has been an awesomely reliable truck. Didn’t put a single hard part in it till 97k when the clutch started slipping. 35s since day 1 and 37s for over 30k plus it gets run and worked hard so I wasn’t too upset. Gave me an excuse to install a dual disc and delete it.

I’ve been doing a fuck ton of work the last couple months all suspension, steering, lighting, front truss, 4.10 gears, front E-locker, line-X etc... I’ll start a thread here with everything when I get the time. My trucks a 3500 as well.

07 Long bed SRW 3500. Bought it 3 years ago with 91 K onnit. 121K now. Not much done to it. Small stuff. Double din Pioneer with kickers under back seat. The recent $1200 government gift check helped pay for the
Yukon spin free kit. Also upgraded all the other front end suspension and steering components. Still need tires tho.
Oh, good to be over here!

Just got back from our Memorial day camping trip. 2004.5 with 137k on the clock. Had an unfortunate incident where an injector took out #5 piston ring. Rebuilt the motor, put in new injectors and while we were in there I put in a Southbend clutch and Edge Monitor. Spending the $$ to rebuild the motor was still way cheaper than paying 70k for a new truck. Still love my NV5600 5.9 cummins...

Are they kissing you first? 12 quarts of oil, a good filter, and a new fuel filter is about $100 for my '07. I can do it myself in 30 minutes.

Yeah I'm not sure where the $400 number comes from. I get baldwin fuel filters for $9 each, fleetgiard oil filters for about $13 each, and a gallon of rotella for $20ish. So with 3 gallons of rotella, a fuel filter and oil filter, I'm under $100 in parts.

$400 was my exaggeration, but still not terribly far off.

1 qt of Mopar (Rotella) 15w40 oil = $7.45 ea, 12 qts = $89.40
1 Mopar 05083285AA oil filter = $20.25
1 Mopar 68157291AA fuel filter = $93.00
1 Mopar 68436631AA fuel filter/water separator = $62.20

That adds up to $264.85. Add in the labor and you are over $300.

Granted, this is list pricing and worst case scenario, but it was what I had to work up when trying to adjust the pricing to try and be a little more competitive. Prior to my working there, they were almost always charging list. With 5 liter bottles, yes Fiat is stupid and refuses to sell a US gallon of oil, it comes down a bit, even more with bulk oil pricing. The filters go for a decent discount as well and we end up a little over $200 with labor. Which will sound expensive to anyone who does their own oil changes or goes to some discount place, but this is at a dealership with genuine Mopar filters and oil, not cheap filters bought in bulk or no-name oil. And believe it or not, we are still cheaper than the other FCA dealers in our area and have been stealing some business from them because of it, though the drive isn't worth it for many. But no matter how you look at it, it's still more than the $60 or so a 5.7L Hemi oil change costs, the 6.4L is more due to it requiring synthetic. Full disclosure, I have been buying Wix filters for about $5 and gallons of Rotella Gas 5W20 synthetic for less than $20 a gallon off Amazon, so no, I am not drinking the dealer koolaid even with my discount. :flipoff2:
