Yeah, I really missed this build. Glad to see you made the jump over, didn't know if you had or not. 👍

Still my all time favorite build from Pirate. Awesome to see it on the road, Trans and engine behaving now?
Thanks! I am hoping to finish it this coming spring. I'll have my new shop space finally setup and wired hopefully by the end of February so I can get back to work. I'll have more space now and have a 2 post lift safely rated for the truck so my work should be cleaner and quicker when it comes to pulling the body off to clean up the frame and associated systems. The fuel tank has an ever so slight weep. Like one drip every 2 or 3 days and the filler neck needs a better vent system because filling it takes too long due to air entrapment and foaming over.

Transmission issues have been isolated to production problems with the rear planetary thrust bearings, (werent hardened in the early generations of these 5 speeds transmissions) some driveline angle issues creating a vibration, and an overfilling issue because of having the wrong dipstick for the pan... when the yard that the engine and transmission came from crated it all, they took the dipstick tube out... and sent one from a GM truck I guess... along with a bad torque converter that didn't belong with this transmission. I literally never thought about it being wrong. So, I was overfilling the transmission and causing cavitation after a few miles of driving, which was causing the roaring from the torque converter. Shame on me, and the whole situation. This is one of the downsides to modular components and not having the original donor vehicle as a completed thing. They also had sent the wrong TCM and had provided me a TCM out of a GM truck, not the ISB, that was covered in the original build thread on Pirate.

Yea, I had been over here for a bit but didn't even think about the old thread being gone and not over here. I hadn't really touched this thing other than to move it or short trip drive it over the past two years. Been getting my life back together after a divorce, relocation back across the state, and still getting my new space setup to work in.

Here is my 62 Powerwagon.

About 40 years ago my ol man had to sell his 67 powerwagon because of a growing family. He always regretted it but he was a good man and did what he needed to do for his family.

About 10 years later we were driving thru our neighborhood. He slowed down and looked up at a 62 sitting in this old guys driveway. He'd admired it for years. But this particular day he said, "Man that sure is a nice powerwagon!" Nice was a relative term because it has been sitting for many years. I said, "why dont you ask him to buy it?" He said he had years back. I said, " why don't you ask him again? Worst he could say is, no." My old man looked at me funny and pulled over. We went up and talked to the gentleman who agreed to sell it to him. My ol man almost crapped himself. Right then and there my dad told me too sit in the front yard while he ran to the bank. He didn't want anyone to come along and snag it before he got back.

30 years later, here we are. I always wanted the truck, but I didn't want to have to lose my dad to get it. Its very bittersweet. But this truck is full of memories. Learned to drive in it too.

Nice. Pretty much the same as mine when I got it, only mine got the chrome package and had to add the tow mirrors later.

rare pic of my three Dodges lined up: the big one has one of the first of the 5.9 Cummins, the second has one of the last of the 440s, and the third has one of the last of the 5.9 Cummins -

After being off of the “other forum” for about 8 years I decided to get active since I bought a new to me truck. Little did I know the other forum has turned to shit. I had gotten away from 4x4’s due to having more dirt bike and ADV buddies. My old truck was showing its age and my father in law offered to sell me his 2008 Ram 2500 4x4 Hemi with very low miles since it was only getting driven about once every three months.
I know nothing about this gen of Dodge truck other than he’s had zero issues with it. (And why would he, it’s been garaged since day one and he’s religious about maintenance.
Anyway I’d like to make the suspension ride a little better. I’m not expecting miracles from a 3/4 ton truck but anything will help. I’ve been looking at the Carli 2” leveling kit with Carli shocks all around. Is this any good or is there a better option? I’m not really wanting to lift it aside from leveling and I’ll probably run max of 33-34” tires
