Building a shop so I can build junk more efficiently
Well im glad i tore the carburator out to clean it.... first thing i noticed was that it was already way to clean for a motorhome that had been sitting for years.Todays... and hopefully it gets sorted today.
Onan 5500. Starts and runs great maybe 1 out of 100 tries and will stay running untill i turn it off and then back to square 1.
I know it was sitting for 3 years and then the p.o. threw a new fuel pump on it. They also taped up 90% of the air filter making me think choke issues.
Anyhow im going to clean the carb, change the oil, new plugs, new air filter, and then be pissed it still doesnt run.
The spark plugs look like they are impossible to get to with the generator installed so im pretty confident they are 17 years old... it clearly gets fuel as i can see it splattering around inside the carb while cranking and it runs out of the fuel bowl when i lossen the little drain screw.
Love it when a plan comes togetherWell im glad i tore the carburator out to clean it.... first thing i noticed was that it was already way to clean for a motorhome that had been sitting for years.
Second thing i notced was that it appeared a washer was missing inside the bottom of the fuel bowl where there is a nice machined surface.
Third thing i notced was there is an electric solenoid the controlls fuel flow into the bowl and it seemed stuck open... i assumed with no power hooked up it should default to closed. So i pulled the sylonoid apart and noticed a nice shiny washer between the two halves. Then i noticed that the plunger in the solenoid was not stuck at all but the washer was shimming everything to the open position.
Turns out whoever pulled everything apart last time took the washer from inside the fuel bowl and installed it between the sylonoid and jet. Cleaned everything good and threw the rest of the tune up stuff at it and it runs like its supposed to

This is the reason I keep anything I might find useful in the future, because people like you use all that shit to make cool stuff.Built this to attack the rocks in my garden. Bent mobile home frame+shortened riding mower+dust collector+culvert+unit bearing+random old driveshafts+MH axle+rear half of an s10 blazer+junk.
Very nice furniture, you could turn that into a nice side job.I have been building furniture, and playing with the alaskan sawmill, because everyone with 2 kids under 2 needs to cut down their own trees, mill their own boards and build custom furniture instead of working on the trucks. I don't know if I have ADHD, or just bad at making decisions.
the solindidlyilondid just shuts off the fuel to prevent dieselling on shut down
not really a big deal and more a cause for trouble than anything
should still have a normal float and needle in the bowlYeah, that part. The one on my riding mower likes to stick open and let the gas tank drain into the crankcase. I put a manual shutoff valve on it which mostly solves that.
My neighbor stopped me the other day to talk for 5 mins while I was mowing, when I went to restart it the cylinder was almost hydrolocked with fuel and it took a few bumps of the starter to get it over center and pump a few cc's of fuel out through the muffler. Annoying.
True.should still have a normal float and needle in the bowl
check on that shit, prolly a sunk float or something
the solenoid only plugs the feed to the jets
bowl vent is still open to the intake 100% of the time
ThanksLooks like a good size pad! How big? Deets mang!

For whatever reason if that solenoid is open and the engine is cut off it will foul plugs instantly on zero turn Kawi's I used to work on.the solindidlyilondid just shuts off the fuel to prevent dieselling on shut down

Hmmm, could same problem that trip the overspeed cutout on a Onan 3DJA-3R and cause it to shut down?Check to see if the rotor rings are corroded and need cleaned. It will not run after releasing the start switch if it is not making solid contact there. I used Scotchbrite on a plastic stick to clean them while the engine was cranking.
Not really for dieseling, it is an anti-afterfire solenoid. Basically it just prevents the annoying loud bang after a small engine is shut off and and it draws a bunch of raw fuel thru into the screaming hot muffler.the solindidlyilondid just shuts off the fuel to prevent dieselling on shut down

I want it
I don't want it
But I want it.

For the first time that I can honestly remember, I don't have any big projects that are down, and it's weird. 4 jeeps and a 200x 3 wheeler, and everything runs and drives. I am in the middle of a huge purge though getting rid of crap I've held on to for years because "one day...". As hard as it was to start seeing stuff go that I could probably use in 5 years, it's been pretty satisfying. Then probably get one of the jeeps sometime in the next year, just to make room for more bad decisions haha.
And I didn't even end up choosing my tail lights . The one project I've let go without finishing, like ever. That one was tough to see go, but it went to a friend so I see pics every now and then. It has resumed the job it's so good at of waiting for attention. He hasn't had time to finish it, and would actually like me to finish building it if I was in the position to do so. If I could, I would.Sounds like it's time to build another U4 chassis seeing as how you let us all down by selling off the batmobile chassis without finishing the build...
More pics and info manStarted a container cabin about a year ago, the outside is almost done, but the inside is bare.
A Jubilee? Here are pictures of the current state.
I posted pics when I got it home in another thread, but have lost those pictures due to loosing phone.
Tore down to the Block. Took front end off.
The spines on the hydro pump are just about gone. So I will replace that and the drive side as well. Parts are still available for a 1953 which Is great, plus they are not expensive as you think they might be.
Decided since I down this far might as well replace the clutch as well. So this weekend the engine lift comes out.
I am the first one to dig into this tractor. The sleeves are in good condition, so I will just replace the pistons and rings.
Also going to rebuild the head this weekend.
The cylinders were at 90, 90, 90 and 30 when I started. Looking forward too what they will be when done. The last picture is what I think is 50ish years of oil leaking from the governor cover.
Yep jubilee. 50th anniversary of ford tractors.A Jubilee?
Have a 42 ford 2N myself about to do a rebuild on maybe...
But this truck is next to pour FRN's into.
