I've got a 60gal 5hp compressor I put together and stuck it on a 3x3 pad with embedded bolts behind my garage. I need to build an enclosure for it to help quiet it down, and I'm looking for design ideas.

Post up what you've seen or what you have for this type of thing. I'm thinking a single front door, maybe 2x4 studs, metal roof, vent in the bottom of the door and top vents between the roof line and walls.

On my air compressor I noticed most of the noise was coming from the air intake. So I made an barbed adapter so I could move the air intake into the attic space above my shop. Easily cut the noise of the compressor in half.

I did the same at my old house when the garage was my workspace. It did help some, but sooo much nicer to move all that racket outside of the workspace. Now I hit the wall switch and if the radio is off I can barely hear the compressor chug to life.

Ghetto, but its a little quieter :lmao:

My 80 gallon 5 hp compressor is in my house basement shop. I ran a 1” ID line underground down to my out building shop 150’ away. I don’t hear shit from it in my basement and it’s in a controlled environment so no crazy water build up in it and it’s not starting up 0 to 100 in freezing temps. Been doing it this way for 20 years now.
