I have a vehicle for sale on CL and the first question everyone asks is for the VIN.

Is this a common question?

I haven’t sold a vehicle in a long time

Seems a bit surprising to me. I can see wanting to run a carfax check or trying to decode for certain features, but that seems like it would only be a few people. On flip side, not really sure how it would be a scam.

Some have been very insistent, it’s like “ I am interested in the vehicle you have for sale….please provide the VIN.

That’s the first text I have received from like 5 or 6 people already

go on cargurus and find a similar car, use that vin. I bet you'll find that 6 out of 6 of those people will ghost you. just a hunch.

The first text? I'd tell them to fuck off.

100% for a Carfax or similar check. Send it

Gotta have a VIN to get a loan, or even try to qualify for one half the time.

So many stolen vehicles I usually ask for a VIn unless It is really cheap.

If it was a scam you wouldn't need to ask him for his. You could just head down to the local market and write down all the vins you see on the dash of any car you like or want to scam or whatever.

I just list the VIN when I list the vehicle. I also post screen captures of the Autocheck when I list. Nothing to hide.

I wouldn't give a fake vin, suppose a serious buyer shows up, checks the actual vin and now you are the one thats sketchy in their eyes and walks away leaving you with your JK and no cash.
Get your own carfax, screen shot it, blur out the last numbers if you are concerned about sharing it.

Another use for the vin is finding cars that went through auction on google images. Namely, smashed up cars that got prettied up.

I do this with auction cars. its surprising some of the shit you can see on a "clean title" vehicle.

95% of the time it’s the scammers asking you to click on or navigate to this fake carfax site that costs you money and steals your information . If it’s a 17 JKU it might be legit but if it’s the first question , it’s 100 percent a scam don’t respond . Even if it’s a series of texts but the first question is for the VIN it’s a scam . I sell a ton of cars on c list .

Does it come with faggot ducks?

VIN for sure then.

This.
Too many responses is often a scammer and asking for the VIN is just the easy canned response from them.
There is no issue providing a VIN, they are visible to everyone that can see a car in person.
