Scrap

I'm supposed to haul away a Furukawa FL 170. An old Japanese loader. Can anyone find an approximate weight on it? I'm not having any luck and I can't post pictures for the fun guesses.

Scrap steel hasn't paid here in years. At best the yards will take it for free vs charging.
I just cut it up in plastic wheelie trash bin sized pieces. No idea the GVWR of those, but been a few times I couldn't roll it and had to forklift it to the curb.

They stopped giving $$ for old batteries too, or even taking them unless buying a new one.
Have to haul them 30 mins away to the dump and they allow a couple per trip.
Yeah... never mind. In the trash.

You live in Ak it’s reasonable to assume they don’t pay for it. The shippping back to the mainland doesn’t make it worth it. You said this a few times in this thread allready :homer:

I made over a grand last time I took engine and transmission scrap down, 2 years ago. Probably 4k lb if I had to guess. AutoZone takes batteries and gives a $10.00 store credit each.

Everything sucks in Alaska for you eh? Lost your $18,000 mog, work three jobs round the clock to be able to just eat, gotta give away scrap metal and pay to get rid of old batteries. It’s all so… depressing. Does the lack of or too much sun do this to people up there or?!?

I think he actually paid a shop $3k to disappear his mog.:homer:

That thing is sure looking like a cat 950 sized machine, those are 35,000-42,000lb

I'm not sure what your full deal is, but a ragtag landoll is about $150hr port to port, they start the truck at their yard and the clock is running

Is there any more equipment there to push that thing? Will it roll?

An alternative is to sell it to the scrap yard where it sits, some yards have their own equipment and crews for that purpose

You just have to keep them from cutting your throat and going around you, maybe on this deal, but moreso future deals at that site

Also, they may downgrade the payout because of how solid it is, if they have to airarc it into manageable pieces they might ding you on it.

We think, "that's solid iron, huge money! " whereas they might be set up to shred cars, or pile 3 foot long pieces of pipe into rail cars, or engine blocks, somebody is going to have to make that into pieces that can be transfered 9 times to the plant in China

Or if they think they can get it running and use it in their yard, they might pay full bill, different yards can have wildly different policies

Oxy-lance that thing up not the 1/4" rod either...

Get what steel mill uses 1" rod.. that tool will make short work of loaded to 2' and less short iron in less than a day. With a knowledgeable oxy-lance guy.
they'll part something 4' wide and as big an opening as you want to wash left to right!:smokin::usa: I got to cut coils and machinery... believe me in a day that thing could be a coil cooling down.. then use a material handler to take what was cut to Scrap bay cranes and into the scrap bucket it would go.

Property owner already tried to get the scrap yard to remove it a tractor and a few trucks. I was next on the list. I loaded a dumptruck and hauled it yesterday. 13,300 lbs. There was a Ford 8400 that is loaded waiting to run in on Monday.

My backhoe is there. The loader will roll.

After I haul the tractor on Monday I'll grab another dumptruck and run it in. Trying to get it setup to haul this one on Tuesday.

My truck and trailer are probably good for 18 to 20k. I just can't find anything online for good guesses of the weight of this thing. I don't think it's 40k but that would be worth it to pay a flat deck to haul it.

Stop taking your scrap to Caveat Emporium Junkyard!!
Local yard is paying~
#1 is .10¢ lb
#2 is .08¢ lb

Thanks for the heads up, I'll check it out- 🤑
There's no yard that pays for ferrous.

It's not going to run again or I'd use it at my house. It's within loader driving distance away. LOL
The scrapyard is huge. They can handle cutting it up I'm sure.

If you've got the means, that bucket is something you cut off and leave on CL and fbmp for a year until somebody pays you your $1k ask because they have to have it

I'm going with 31k as is no cab, that's a big bitch
It's hard to get an idea of scale, the truck in the background makes it look small. Looks like maybe 3yd bucket?

Look at the steering wheel compared to the planetaries, and then looking at the engine, I'm guessing inline 6 versus 4, I think she's a big girl

Newer model but bet its close to same size class machine weight wise

Get tire size/diameter and we can scale off that pretty well next time you're there.
