Scrap

So the late 90’s v8 Vic has 2 precast and 2 cats.

The Jeep commander had 2 cats, over a grand for all 6, but just 2 vehicles. Need to scrap the Vic soon if nobody wants the engine and the commander after my Jk v8 swap is done
Who'd you sell the cats to?
I save them up, try to find a buyer, but it seems that sending to the east coast scrap guys, or selling on eBay is the biggest deal

My buddy’s guy that swings through KC weekly. From AR I think. 🤷‍♂️ Don’t have his name or number.

How much should I offer for this?

Data plate picture was clearly taken with a potato but it looks like 3k without battery, 5k with. I want the mast for my loader.

as little as possible. maybe $100. should net a decent profit.

shit like that the seller often cant move, or they are not smart enough. seen people turn down offers only to end up paying to have those same things removed.:shaking:

Does it have a battery?
Call your local scrap yard, see what they would pay for junk electric forklift, weight of xxxx# and a forklift battery weight of #xxxx.
See what it will cost to rent a tilt deck trailer.

I wouldn't pay much more than 80% of the scrapyards price after your cost to get it there.

I don't see anything special about it. Seems like with a little looking around one should be able to find a modern car sub-frame that just bolts on with four big bolts and doesn't require you mount the sway bar, UCAs and rear part of the LCAs separately.

The upper control arms are attached to the subframe thing, what you're seeing are some sorta strut tower brace bracket things

Ok, so strike one from the list.

Mounting the rear of the LCAs is still kind of a pain compared to grabbing a subframe out of some FWD crossover that has all the shit ready to go and you just need to square it up. The problem is knowing which FWD platform has the width, bolt pattern and generally compatible dimensions to work in whatever your target vehicle is. And nobody has done the hard work of figuring that stuff out yet.

I took 1600 lbs of Sheet Iron in this afternoon. It was priced at $13 per 100 lbs - $208 total.

I took in another 900 lbs yesterday. The price has dropped to $11 per hundred lbs, down $2 from the beginning of the month.

It's looking more and more like we have peaked on scrap prices back in March and everything is now on a confirmed downward trend. I'm going all in and taking everything I got left this weekend. All the folk who posted the last 2-3 pages of this thread heading in with a load and showing receipts... Congrats! It looks like you nailed it.

So should I turn my stash of cats into something more liquid or hold onto them as an inflation hedge?

Being that the push is to go all in on EV's making them obsolete and being the price of cats are on the same projectory scrap price fall as all the other materials, I'd say most gamblers would bet that you would be a fool.

My wife works for a local recycle business. I usually just go with what they say. And they just hit the switch to sell as fast as they can.

IDK man. Asia and Africa are gonna buy a hell of a lot of Honda Fit type cars as they slowly develop over the coming decades.

like how you can still buy brand new euro2 diesel trucks in pakiland from major jap manufacturers like isuzu and hino

We are seeing scrap at $265/tn here in the northeast. Down from the recent high of $510.

Just checked today:

$6/hundred for auto

$8/hundred for short

Guess I'll sit on it, not worth the fuel to haul.

around here there is someone on CL offering to buy that stuff.
my guess is they are stock piling them to sell when the .gov starts cracking down on the deleted crowd.

CC's have Platinum in them which is selling today for $28 / gram. But Google says they only contain around 3-7 grams each, which sounds right. When you look down in one it's the thin screen you see being what is Platinum.

There's definitely some sort of conspiracy to CC prices going on that I don't know about... They going for a lot more than that. I know a guy that just sold a set for $700 to the scrap yard and they still making their $...

Well, in addition to that platinum, it might also have some other shit making up the rest of the value....
