What's new

Schwan man

I always wanted that as a kid, my parents told me it was too expensive.

How was the food? Was anything worth getting from them?

Their trucks were neat because it was liquid injection and not vapor. I found one at the yard years ago but didn't have the cash to buy everything at the time.
I was planning on doing one of those for the intercooler effect
never got around to it

was gonna use the bulkhead terminals from a couple refrigeration compressors to do the bulkhead wires to run the pump inside the propane tank

There is plenty of worse frozen food at the grocery store. We were 20 miles from a store in town so it worked out for some items. I loved their pizzas as a kid.

The pizzas were my childhood go to as well.

I never thought their frozen food was that bad, but we never got whole meals either, mainly appetizers. It was expensive enough that it was a treat for sure. We can order some Sysco stuff and have found similar items there.
Some of their ice cream was great and I haven't been able to find similar items in stores. If anyone knows replacements for Golden Nugget bars and Silver Mint bars that would be appreciated.

I had a family member drive for them at one point
he loved the job, he was also shady scum con man
that is all I needed to know

Never understood why anyone would pay all that extra money to have the shittiest of frozen food delivered to them. Old/disabled people I can understand, but that's about it.
I agree that the shit is expensive, but in my experience the food was pretty fucking good. Maybe that says more about my simple palate than the food, but I liked a lot of their stuff.

That being said, the last time I had a guy that came around regular was about 2003. If the food quality has gone downhill since then I wouldn't know.

I flagged down the truck on 2 different occasions to buy ice cream.

I didn't know they changed the name or that they were still in business.

My neighbor used to buy from them occasionally, but they haven't been there for 7 or so years.

My best friend in elementary school's parents ordered some stuff from them in the 70s. The apple flautas were absolute food of the gods, but it may just have been because my folks couldn't afford it.

Only ever bought ice cream off of them when we lived in Fortuna CA. Haven't seen one in 13 years since we moved to ID. Their salted peanut butter ice cream was our go to, have never found another that compares.

Bummer to hear this. Never had their meals but for like 20yrs Grandma always stocked Schwan ice cream in one of her freezers for all the kids. I remember the delivery guy would even put it inside the freezer. Their Raspberry Rumble and Black Cherry ice creams were the shiznit. Dang now I want some :crybaby2:

peppermint around xmas was also almost always instantly sold out.

Pizza, sausage patties, ice cream, fudgecicles, push-ups, are all I really remember us mostly getting.

When we lived in the HOA, when our girls were very young, we got a lot of stuff from the Schwan’s truck. I swear we lived on their chicken wings and frozen pizzas when the kids were toddlers :homer:

We rode bikes around the neighborhood as kids. In the summer during junior high we realized that the Schwan's guy would stop at some houses for about 1/2 hour each. He had 3 of them. Dude was an absolute stud.
