What's new

Samurai!

You should be well in the sxs winch range with as light as this is.

I have a cheapo 6k lb on my samurai and it pulls it fine, I want to upgrade to a warn 5500 axom though.
Shit, I'd probably go with the 3500 with synthetic rope. Given HF's reliability with electronics I will buy a real winch.

Meh, I like to have about double the vehicle wieght capacity.

I wouldn't want much less than the 5500.
If you have pulley block, a 3500 would pull it up a tree. But a 5000 is not much of a weight penalty. Weight is important when you need to lug it around by hand. (Receiver hitch) When I did some research, they are all pretty light until 8000.

Speaking of weights, anybody know how heavy the Warns are? They're spec sheets are a little underwhelming.

Size wise, I am going to make a storage box below the bed in the back that should be large enough for the winch and a few other things. Another reason for going smaller.

According to this, third layer and down should be able to lift the entire rig.

At full load, I ain't gonna be winching long even with the motor running. The bigger ones are worse.

I've used the Superwinch Terra 4500 SR UTV winches on a couple of projects and had no issues. One of those mounted to a custom hitch mount would be slick and not a pain in the ass to move because of weight.

Looking good.

To add to the winch sidebar, I'm running a milemarker pe5000 SxS winch on my budget Samurai rig. It weighs about 25lb with the synthetic line, and takes up a small footprint. Specs were impressive when I looked into it prior to purchase. It was pretty cheap too. I've only had to use it to move down trees and such, but so far, so good.

Let there be light!

These are the early billet housings machined by me. I saved a bunch when the castings showed up. When they updated the emitters to what is now the "pro" series, I built them up.

2 spots, 2 wide cornering and the LED headlights should be plenty of light for the speeds I will be going.

Brown Santa delivers.

Found an open box deal on egay so I made an offer and they took it. Saved about 100$ :smokin:

There might be better winches out there, but this one looks cooler. Even if it doesn't work it will still make the panties drop.

Nice

I'm curious how you'll like it. I want the 5500 since getting buried in snow with the tracks takes a lot of grunt to get out.

I figured if they put them on those giant sherp things, they should pull out a samurai

Winch mount in.

The piece of aluminum I have for the skid plate is 1" to narrow. Story of my life.

Moved on the the seat bar.

This was way more of a pain than it should have been. There is another smaller tunnel under the big tunnel. Had to make a long hole saw to cut it all out. The regular one just wanted to kick sideways in the hole.

What LED head lights are you using?
Butch
Not sure on the brand. They were Amazon truck lite knock off's.

Hooked 1 up to check the pattern, they are pretty decent. I was trying to get something that looked closer to OEM without using a shitty conversion bulb.

Exuast talk to cover what was lost with the glitch in the matrix. I had it all typed up aaaaaannnnnnndddddd crasharooney.

The front and rear cross members connect the frame rails. It will have dual exhuast.

Moving on to the gas pedal mount.

Dimple dies are worth like 30hp right?

Throttle stop to prevent whiskey throttle breakage.

Tacked in.

Need to get a seat down to check the location before I make it really hard to fix.

Well, if the floor was flat it would be great.

That hump has to go.

Problem, there's a bump where it needs to be flat.

Solution, make a mini planishing hammer.

Close enough.

And this concludes the easy part.

Colored spaghetti and lots of ball scratching coming up.

Title this one I suck at sheetmetal.

Good thing I saved that piece.

Went to Homodepot for some of the finest 2x3/16 flat bar.

Will tie the front seat mount bars into this. That way the trans will have a slim chance of coming out with the body on.

Now on to the seat mounts.

I hate this part.

20230101_171055.jpg

It got a weld blanket too. I've seen a seat go up from welding, it's quick.

Next, pin holes in the rear seat bar with some locating sleeves.

Pin mount seat brackets, fuck those rear bolts.

Couple tabs and bobs your aunt.

Seat mounts are finished up.

Moving on to the trans tunnel. Cut the shifter hole part out of the spare tub a couple inches longer to put the hole over the shifter.

The filter fans are getting a workout today.

Seam sealer and undercoating smoke are good for you right?
