Running a T from black iron gas pipe

It's honestly probably not worth it for any less. Have you dealt with people lately? Everyone bitches about everything all the fucking time.
...and it's a small pain in the ass job.

You gotta get all your shit together, get there, do three hours of work, paperwork, permits, mobilize, de-mobilize. Just like having a short load charge on concrete.

I know a guy who was fucking livid about some roofing contractor. He got the guy to quote a new roof (replace shingles). Then after he received the quote, he asked the price to do half the roof (half this year, and the other half next year).

Contractor quoted like 85% of the original quote.:lmao:

Life's fuckin' hard.

Yellow tape for gas
White tape for h20

I just use pipe dope.

Done it a few times adding onto my gas lines for fireplaces, gas stove and outdoor BBQ.

I think that's a canadian thing
least I've never seen them IRL, only mention of the practice

Nah they exist here too. I had to use them in CA in crawl spaces.

I didn't even know they existed until I moved there.

update

second place came to quote, gave me 1480, but this is a KNOWN and big comoany in the area, the first guy was Jose off craigslist, so he definitely quoted high there

however in details if this ine, ir said theyre using this

none of you guys mentioned this as an option, is it legit? Has to be if they are using, they are big and known around here

Nope. But they are legit to answer your questions. Had a contractor run some air line at work using megapress. Makes the job real quick but fittings and tools are expensive
and the water ones always seem to leak just enough to make a crusty mess on everything

Fuck....Just do it! Harbor Fright pipe threader is cheep and good enough; but there pipe wrenches suck donkey dicks! Dont forget pipe cutter and reamer. You will only need to cut and thread one or two pipes. Everything else is done at the hardware store. Use the best pipe dope you can get your hands on! Fuck that tape BS. :smokin::smokin::smokin::smokin:

dunno

also dunno if they're any different
just an o-ring in there to seal it right?
I think so. If I remember right they are picky about pipe surface finish, obviously relying on an o ring

I've had good luck with shark bite fittings on copper, I wouldn't trust one for gas service though, especially with the inconsistencies with the od of black steel pipe.
funny enough I have too, but those crimpy fittings the plumber they called at work used? every fucking one is crusty
both times they called him out

also the same retard that was using 10' sticks of pex instead of a roll, so maybe he was also retarded enough to not debur and bevel the cut ends of the copper pipe?

They're code legal for gas here. Buddy owns a plumbing company, it's all he uses now.

If they are leaking they somehow got installed wrong. Short stabbed, not deburred or something. Pro-press is fucking awesome.

No flaming if I say "pull a premit" and get it inspected. You will sleep like a log at night knowing that your shit doesn't leak. And when you sell your place; new owners will see premits pulled, and not question if the modificaton was a DIY hack.
I will look around and see if me or my girlfried own a pipe threader. Be happy to ship it to you. It is something that you use a few times when you are young.:smokin::smokin::smokin::smokin:

Replumbed all the NG piping in the house starting at the main shutoff. Had to upsize everything to add an on demand water heater. Also added a line out to the garage for future use. Ran the main in 1” and everything else in 3/4”. I added several shut off valves in key locations. It’s not bad at all. A bit time consuming and a bit of a workout with hand threading. Use drip legs and quality thread sealant. I have a good friend who owns one of the largest plumbing companies in the state that checked it out for me when I was done and I passed with flying colors. The internet has everything you need to know.

Fwiw I bought the Bauer pipe threader from horrible freight this week. The pipe place in town doesn’t thread pipe anymore:homer:. Had to thread 8 pieces of 1.5” pipe. Threader worked surprisingly well.

I'm surprised that you didn't have a pipe threader. We can thread ⅛-6". You can also buy stuff for a lathe to thread pipe.

I have nothing really to add other than keeping up with this thread..

And to try not to derail here...:lmao::usa:

I've fused a whole bunch of natural gas line.. sometimes when you call 811.. you get dumm dumm.

Hoe operator is really good at finding stuff....

I have a Ridgid 1224 threader, so as long as you know how to setup taper cut dies it's a cake walk. :flipoff2:

Smear a little dope and wrap 2-3 wraps of tape on top. Helps keep the dope from getting on everything. Can literally spin it on hand tight without leaks since it's 2psi or less.

Use unions. Makes the future easier even though good ones are expensive.

Try and avoid Chinese pipe and parts.

Pro-press is cool. I'm not spending the money they want on fittings when I already have the 1224. It's all the plumbers use now. Lots of journeyman plumbers haven't seen or used a torch around here. Like anything else it's all about the prep. Crappy work will always have problems.
