Well, guess I'll share a bit. To preface or summarize, the rubicon kicked ass (literally) Haha.

Defiantly wasnt expecting the constant rocks, ledges, crawling during the whole trail. Wheeling back east, normally, you'll run down dirt roads, hit rocks (1 mile or less), run out a dirt road, end trail.

Anyway, constantly keeping on, picking, remembering, and looking ahead for the line was a struggle for some. It also rattled our hillbilly rigs.

First break was this upper control arm/skid plate thing-ma-gig on a buddy's jeep.

This is after patching. We brought battery stick leads, but awesome couple stopped and gave us their karnage welder that work pretty decent.

After patching the jeep, we made it to buck island. The goal was rubicon springs. Haha.

But after crossing the dam and starting up the rocks, a different jeep split/cracked the top tank of the radiator. About a 6 inch long crack. Hot ass hell.

This was my first application of JB weld. Added about 3 more the next day and looked more like a tumor.

Man…if only there was a resource for building some type of trail welder similar to the Karnage. Something with pictures and a parts list.

I'll check it out. We carry weld cables with battery attachments and a stinger. Worked great for us in the past.

The karnage welder was offered, and I was like why the hell not. Cool.

If I had to critique, a stick welder burns through paint/shit better. The shielding and pure penatration of 7018/6013/6010 is just my favorite. In my weld life, stick was always used on xray/dy pen/visual. The farmer roots in me, reaches for my 6011 when I'm hacking together in the field.

Off subject. Is there a way to adjust amps for a battery stick setup. We just burn until the battery's get to that good amperage Or catch fire

Still be fixin plastic tanks, crappy copper, but yea.
Any port inna storm.
Kudos for driving to the trailer
...
We lost a nut on the ? Track bar? Bottom of caddy.
Split a rad tank at buck, broke a diff carrier stud at buck.
We all survived.
:usa:

It was an excellent few days with you boys. We appreciated the hospitality and the grub was outstanding. Any of you guys ever make it to NM just let me know so I can repay the favor. Great breakfast choice Sluggy.

Is 24 volt flux core as good, better or worse than 24 volt stick welding? I thought flux core was the SAME as SMAW with the added bonus of ‘hot glue gun’ endless supply.
Doesn’t adjusting the wire feed speed of Flux Core adjust the amperage? Maybe a second added bonus of ‘amperage adjustable SMAW’?

I’ve seen Jimbo weld stick off his rig, and we’ve welded with a suitcase spool off 2 batteries.

I’m leaning towards the Premier, without considering cost. Pulling two batteries is just a pain in the ass.

Karnage vs. Premier? Premier for me (once my junk runs and drives)

And no, wire speed doesn’t increase amperage. Amperage is governed by the batteries, and their condition. On/off.

Flux core is more versatile and easier to run but stick is much stronger. Problem is most people can't weld for shit with stick.

Wire speed doesn't adjust amperage but a decent welder can adjust wire and travel speed (or just travel speed with stick) to make things work with the amperage you have.

Ah.

Etyler2 Have you considered using a lithium ion battery pack? The kind you use to jumpstart a truck. A 4,000 amp jump pack has to last SOME kind of time compared to a 50 amp hour car battery.

Getting closer. Getting this heep ready for my college adult child. Drama behind getting it done. But she’s going out tomorrow. My son wants to take the top off and cruise for the weekend. Also zoomed out 2 states over for a new daily. Been a crazy few weeks but I’m bound to post trip pics. :flipoff2:

Well damn. There’s so much I can say about this trip and this trail. But if you haven’t been then go. The trail itself wasn’t extremely difficult but it was definitely mentally difficult. I had never wheeled terrain like this where there is obstacle after obstacle after obstacle. It was relentless. It was plain badass. Yes I got denied on Little Sluice and Soup Bowl (I’m gonna blame it on a rear locker issue and too little psi) and I turtled twice. :lmao: I’d love to go back in a few years but damn that drive. It was brutal. I clocked 5000 miles round trip. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, you all Californians have a beautiful state…too bad it’s been ruined by politics. Rubicon…take that dip at Rubicon Springs and Buck Island…watch the sun set at Buck Island…grab a beer at beer tree…truly lived up to its iconic status.

Huge thanks to Sluggy , Clb , Dirtyjed , and h0trod for showing us their trail. The poke bowl was fkn noms. My daughter was still talking about it last week. I hope I can return the hospitality if y’all are ever in Texas. :grinpimp:

I’ll try my best to set pictures in order but doubt it. :flipoff2:
