In my Jeep, giving Jeep waves #jeeplife #yeep #jeeperolife

Alright got the ghey out of the way. :flipoff2:

So a couple of friends and I are planning our summer trip. We’ve talked about running the Rubicon for several years (life happened for me and set those plans back a few years) and this summer it’ll finally be happening. I’m hoping to get some input and help on a couple of things. It will be a group to include a JL, 2 JKs, and a 4runner with Sluggy being our trail leader. Our general itinerary is:

Rubicon - 2024

Rubicon - 2024

Day 1: July 12 - home-11->Roswell

Day 2: July 13 - Roswell-8->Williams AZ - 1 > (GC) - See GC for 1-2 hours (hotel)

Day 3: July 14 - Williams-4 -> Vegas (Hoover Damn)

Day 4: July 15 - Day in Vegas

Day 5: July 16 - Vegas-8->Tahoe (hotel)

Day 6: July 17 - Tahoe - 1.5 >Rubicon Trailhead

Day 7: July 18 - Day at Rubicon Spring

Day 8: July 19 - Finish Rubicon, ABNB Tahoe

Day 9: July 20 - Tahoe

Day 10: July 21 - Tahoe

Day 11: July 22 - Tahoe-(1)->deer valley trail (4)->Yosemite (4)(hotel)

Day 12: July 23 - yosemite (hotel)

Day 13: July 24 - Yosemite>2.5sequoia1>3.75Barstow->5flagstaff (hotel)

Day 14: July 25 - flagstaff-Roswell

Day 15: July 26 - Roswell-Houston

Day 16: July 27 - Houston

Day 17: July 28 head home

1) Sluggy has set us up with a drop off point in Reno for our top and doors which is an hour to the Rubicon trailhead and another hour from our South Lake Tahoe ABNB (Nevada side). Anyone happen to have something closer to help us out with? Just looking to leave our doors and tops for 2 Jeeps. If not, we can make Reno work just figured I’d reach out for another option.

UPDATED 2/7/24. This ain’t gonna work. We’re going to need something closer to SLT

2) for those that have been to Yosemite and Sequoia, looking for input for Days 11-14. We are trying to get an idea of drive time, driving routes, places to stay…as of now I’m thinking one day at Yosemite, one day at Sequoia.

3) I was hoping to have time to spend a few days at Sand Hallow but looks like that’ll have to be a completely different trip for another year. Unless someone wants to convince me to skip the parks and hit SH :flipoff2:
UPDATED 2/7/24: no SH. Pit stop in St George though for a night to rest and visit a friend.

Advice and input appreciated for anything worth seeing along the way, places to eat, etc. as always meeting some (p)Irates along the way would be :smokin:

If you find yourself on the 395 end of 120 ( Tioga pass) you gotta eat at the gas station
( breakfast preferably) this place rocks.

That goofball Guy Fieri did a diners driveins n dives episode on them.

Scenic stuff
Devils postpile, june lake loop, the fish hatchery on 395, mono lake,
We have a thread on this area somewhere.

Skip SH in july. Come back in spring or fall! If my Alaska trip (driving to prudhoe bay with my dad) falls apart I may jump in and join you guys.
Lol I was gonna have him contact you for sand hollow

Get any hotel reservation that you are planning on anywhere near Yosemite NOW. Be sure you take the bucket shitter and WAG bags for the Rubicon. Maybe take a day off to simply kick back somewhere on the trial away from the dust and noise. Your post and pics here will be :beer::beer::beer:

When I visited Yosemite last summer I stayed in an air BNB near Oakhurst. It was a garage apartment detached from the couples house. It was remote and fairly quiet. We would go into the park from the El Portal entrance. Seemed to be less traffic that way. I would recommend getting there early, parking disappears fast. We spent 3 days and didn’t see it all some of the roads were still closed from snow. If you are going to sequoia and kings canyon skip the big trees in Yosemite sequoia is more impressive

Come July, I'll be chomping @the bitt:flipoff2:
Here's a pic of 120 looking east to 395 after breakfast on a ride years ago.

If you're really planning on staying in the Grand Canyon make your reservation today. Let me know when you're in Williams I'd like to meet up with you guys for at least a meal.

Rubicon has plenty of out houses

That's great to hear. When I de-coupled from the trail effort they were trying to get a few. Locate them at Spider, Buck Island, the Springs. We built that entry shack at the spillway that handed out free WAG and some trail etiquette stuff. The first bridge was going in and under construction at the first creek crossing on the trail. I will take the family back this summer. Fuck, I hope we dont see a bunch of drunk assholes going off trail. :confused:

OP, as you see by the response get yer hotets whatever early. Like today :flipoff2:

For Deer Valley go in on Forestdale Road at hwy 88. It's dirt almost all the way to the Deer Valley trailhead. Well worth the views and a fun drive.
this
goes in at Red Lake

Sequoia is nice, but I would spend less time these and more time on the backside of the Sierras.

go to Masonic or Bodie and take the roads all the way through into Nevada
go to the lakes on the east side
Ludy, Virginia etc

I'll ask my buddy in SLT if you can store stuff at his house. I'm assuming your gonna put them on after Con and before Deer Valley?
As mentioned Slick Rock is a fun easy trail after DV that loops back to 4.
I'm sure I'll think of more stuff. Where are you staying in Tahoe?

Gonna put in for time off when I turn in vacay request this month.

A couple miles away from Slick Rock is Corral Hollow. You can stay the night for free at the forest cabin there.
Get drunk enough first, though, because when I slept there I kept waking up and seeing rats randomly about and worried they would bite my face as I slept.

Can’t get my teenagers drunk yet. :flipoff2:

What’s SLT? Yes drop off before the Con and pick up after the Con or Lake Tahoe whichever works best. Yes Sluggy mentioned Slick Rock and actually planning to run it. Staying here:
755 Bigler Circle, 4

We did book a hotel in Williams. I will get with you for dinner. We talked about doing the G. brewery if you other suggestions as well. We should have time to kill.

Great stuff. Thanks. I need to look at a map.

Any suggestions for hotels around Yosemite or Sequoia that won’t completely break the bank. We will be a group of 10.

Oakhurst would be your best deal I think. My Dad lives there.

For ANYTHING Yosemite related including Day Use check online and make reservations ASAP. Go up to Tuolomne Meadows for sure, get away from the people.
Oakhurst is a nice little town and even the cheaper spots arnt sketchy.
