I know there was a Roomba thread at the old place. Couldn't find one here so here's a new thread.

I've had a Roomba for about three years. It's worked great for what it is. But I have a dog that sheds a lot so I only run it when I'm home and I try to remember to stop it every ten minutes and empty the bin. If I forget, the bin fills up with dog hair and the Roomba keeps rolling and not picking anything up.

I see that Roomba (and Shark) now have vacuums that will return to base and empty into a larger bin. This sounds good in theory but I'm curious if it does this as soon as it gets full, or just after it's run a cycle and returns to base for a re-charge. If it's the latter then it kind of defeats the purpose.

Does anyone have experience with these new ones?

It looks like you have to buy the top-tier models to get auto-dumping. So $800.

For $800 I can sweep and mop a LOT of floor. Good for ya anyway.

We got a cheaper one and it doesn't remember where it went and doesn't record the map of the room. So it gets stuck constantly and randomly vacuums, the newer ones will map a room and remember it for subsequent trips.

Was debating one for the wife for Xmas. Not sure how they do with uneven floors and larger houses. We got 3200 Sq ft, I'd be good if it was effective for half that.

This is why I opened this.
will she shoot me in the face for buying her an appliance or be appreciative for lessening her work load. So she can take better care of me. 😀
