Just wanted to show the rock rails I've been building recently. Who else has done homemade rock rails to show off? Let's see em!!

Memorial weekend leading up to summer solstice is my favorite time of the year. Was a nice night for a little jaunt in the hills

Sorry, but even for a Sami, do not use hrew, it dents waaaay to easy. If you're going to be cheap, at least use sch40 pipe.

I've had HREW sliders since 2011 on a Toyota mini truck, plenty of rash but no dents.
Guess you don't hit many rocks? I've seen even 120 Dom bend bad enough smash the rocker and make the door not open. This wasn't on a drunk guys beat down rig either.

4130 or stay home!

Damn, how did that even happen?

I mean I don't go looking for rocks to hit on purpose, but if it happens it happens.
You must not wheel
Maybe not as hard as some, but shit does get wheeled. Nice Sami BTW!

When you're on a trail that's all rock for 2-3 days, your Sliders get used. Even in creepy crawly 250:1 toyota speed, some times you just come off something hard.

Different strokes for different folks. Some don't mind dented up.

Using super thin tube to save weight with little concern for damage is one thing, but using hrew over Dom is just cheap :flipoff2:

I always try to be weight conscious. My sami rear bumper is 2x4x120, but completely full of holes and dimples. Weighs like 30 lbs. Rock Sliders I always go over board, I like 2x3x3/16" or 1.5" schd 80, unless you want to save weight, then 120 chromo is the way to go.

Also, I should note, my current Sami has "factory" rock Sliders....

These came from Trail Tough, not sure of the wall thickness of the tube but I can smash the full weight of the vehicle on the middle of them against a pointed rock and not bend them. They are fawking heavy though.

Mine are 2x4 1/4” wall. Tied into frame and cage. I’ll snap some pics tomorrow. In retrospect I wish I had done boatsides, but keeping thefloor and not doing sheet metal work was the plan. Buuuuuut, here in New England there are about 50/50 rocks to trees, so it’s nice to rotate around trees with my sliders, as opposed to getting a 4-6” sapling stuck inside my tire.

The fact that they are too short would drive me nuts!
They are what shape they are because of the body mounts and being tied to the frame. I thought it might bother me but I don’t even see them anymore. Also worried they left the corners of the fenders exposed and that I’d smash them in.
