So I've bit the bullet and have started planning out a lengthy, 519-mile journey off-road from Reno to Vegas. I have last year's GPX tracks from Best in the Desert's "Vegas to Reno" race route. I have pre-planned all the gas stops, called ahead to verify, and stashed a ton of parts, air filters, etc. I'll be doing it with some friends who
work the PITS on the actual race and make a video on the whole thing.
My question for ya'll is has anyone else done this? I can't find anything else online because just typing in Reno to Vegas spams the search results with BITD hits lol. I saw a few motorcycle guys that have done part of the route but none that have done the whole thing.
Curious if anyone here has done it and if so, what did you do for crossing the Fallon Naval Air Station Target Area B-19? The route takes me through the northeast corner of the range on a dirt road. I have tried to inquire if this route is legally passable for a few weeks now. I've googled, messaged, reached out to BITD itself, and called the Air Station. Nobody knows what I am talking about haha. Fallon says they don't know which road I'm talking about (is unnamed). BITD doesn't return messages and the racers who I've talked to that run it don't do any of the admin side of things so they have no idea.
The worst case is that I get there and have to detour around the range but I'd like to stick to the route as much as possible. I know other areas similar allow vehicle traffic on the through roads but who knows here?
Anyway, it should be rad and I'll be doing a video on it when done. Cheers.
