Removing hydroboost output pushrod

I think I'm retarded.

I'm trying to remove the output pushrod from my hydroboost. There's a little star looking thing that keeps the pushrod centered and it sits in a groove. Youtube said you just push the star thing in and cock it sideways a bit and it should come out.

I think I'm retarded..............cause that ain't working.

Here's what I have.

Anyone have any tips/tricks/info on removing that thing? I need to make myself a longer pushrod to work with a different master cylinder.

Wiggle and walk it out with pliers. Its a over sized springy piece. Kind of like a check valve idea. You can pushit it but it drags and locks if it goes the other way.
