I am looking for a laser level to use around the house. Everything from hanging pictures, adding electrical outlets, setting counters, etc. Im in the process of doing a kitchen remodel.
I want a cross plane with a plumb mark, and would really like it to have a manual mode so I can do different angles.
Problem is I don't want to spend alot.....

I was looking at the Klein 93LCLS, it has almost everything I want. l found the Chinese branded stuff on amazon and was tempted.

Any recommendations?

Here is a link to the chinese version I was looking at. Does more than I think I need.

I got the bosch 100ft one and it was around $220. It's probably made in China too, but I try and avoid China tools especially if they need to work well and last.

That said it's a great tool and makes life much easier.

I have had better than average luck with china crap, I went ahead and ordered it. It was $20 off, has prime so I can send it back if it doesn't work, and I will have it tomorrow. I'll update as to how well it works.

Don't forget to buy a receiver. It's the kind of thing that once you know about them you wonder how you ever went without.

Did you buy the frequently purchased accessory?

When I see "frequently purchased" lists like that I take that as a sign that stupid yuppies with too much money are buying the product and that I can get a 99.999% equivalently performing product elsewhere for less money or a substantially better performing product with less frills for about the same money.

When you see shit like 5gal buckets of industrial cleaner and 100-packs of sawzall blades in the recommendations that means that people who's continued employment is at least partly dependent on the financial efficiency of their purchasing decisions is buying the product (i.e. they gotta justify their costs to someone up the chain) so you know it can't be that bad of a deal.

So you're telling me you don't usually use your laser level with a treadmill and a windchime? Pathetic.

it sucks

Not to reroute this thread.... Anyone used a lazer level for dirt work, 300ft + ?

I've done a lot of dirt work with a spectra physics laser level... But that's a whole different ball game. I use it for all our surveying needs. I've never used one of those little indoor ones that project the lines onto your project though.

What model do you use?

I'd have to look to be sure, but it looks a lot like this one. Runs off of 12v instead of a 110 plug though. Its an older unit and has dials for both the x and y direction so you can dial in a % grade that you want your dirt leveled out to. It came with our laser plane for leveling fields. I just made a mount to put it on a small tripod and use it with a hand receiver and a survey stick for smaller projects. It reaches out a long damn ways too.

EDIT: Damn I forgot the link... https://www.ebay.com/itm/274192222656

A quick update on the amazon laser.
Damn, that makes things easy. Shoots lines just like the pictures, green is visible and the line stays solid inside the house. I took it outside at night to see how far it would shoot, could see it several houses down.
The case is on the cheap side but it will work. It comes with several fixtures to attach to various items. It will attach to a tripod, both 1/4x20 and the 3/8.

For home use this was a relatively cheap item and will work great. Not sure how it would do in a daily use construction environment. The only thing its missing is a plumbline.

case close, but anyway:

i bought one of the Huepar green lasers off Amazon. Same reasons - hanging cabinets, cable railing installs, etc. all interior work and been great when i've needed it. Think I got one in the $70 realm which had extra directions or something over the cheap ones

was disappointed a little when I tried it outside, you can't see it for shit if its sunny. but i guess that's the norm unless you get into the $$ ones

Water level, damn near free.

yeah that's what I have been doing
figure I could just rebuild it so it is a little more user friendly
currently it's just a piece of clouded vinyl tubing taped to a stud, figure newer tubing and a couple stands for either end made outta junk with inch notches marked out on them would help

I always used 2 10' pieces of 5/8 vinyl with garden hose fittings and whatever garden hose I need for the length.

hm, been meaning for a while to get some nice EPDM garden hoses
I'd just been using 1/4" tubing contributing to difficulty seeing the waterline, thanks for the idea

;n363697]bump for responses
looking for a self-levelling thing
gonna use it outside as well as inside so some good balls on the laser diode would be a plus, as would 110v or 12v rather than some rechargable garbage

got many thousands in concrete going down soon so I'm a-ok with spending 500 bucks or so if that's really necessary

shows up on the CL

I've been using the more expensive Bosch with the green laser. Can't see it well mid day outside so i do layout morning and evening. Im quite suprised how damn accurate it is. Ive set equipment with my machinists level and checked the laser against it and it was spot on.

i've got a job going right now 400' of stainless handrail all to grade.

lots of laser work i use an old David White laser level, i think its an 'autolevel 300'. last time it was sent in for calibration was 10yrs ago but it reads better than i can. nice older unit can be had cheap on ebay ( ive seen them go for under $50 )and over the 400' on the job i'm on it runs all day and my knowns never change.
also the reader it just as important as the laser if your going to be using one. and there is liitle things like taking the reading the same everytime. for ex. i come down on the laser for a reading, never up.
