Recommend me a 6.5 creedmore budget bolt gun

My first impression with the creed was "huh, .260 with better availability?" I always wanted a .260, but I have a creedmoor now so I guess I'm just part of the problem. Shoots nice though.

Pretty much. Although the 6.5 gives up some velocity and energy to the .260. The 6.5 does gain some because of higher max case pressures and it can take slightly higher BC bullets without being pushed into the powder. The .260 is arguably the superior round.

Own, Savage, TIkka and Ruger American bolt guns. Own .260 rem, 7mm-08, 6.5 creed. (Tikka started life as .243 and is now a 7mm-08, Savage started as 7WSM and is now .260)

I say for the money grab a Ruger American.

My Savage has a shitload of spendy upgrades, the only thing actually Savage is the action. I'd dump it for less than half what I have into it today. Acton sucks compared to the others, trigger is a nightmare to adjust. (reminds me it STILL needs tweaking)

Tikka is awesome, with a little tweak the trigger is AMAZING. Factory 7mm-08 loads are meh, I handload, but rarely have the time. This gun sits more than it should. It's a kinda wonky build anyway. Heavy for a woods gun, recoil is just enough to mess with spotting shots for any playing in PRS type games. Tikkas get a rap for shearing bolt stop pins if you run them hard. May rebuild this (again) with a light weight 6 creed barrel. Have a American Rifle Co Nucleus action sitting around. May Sell it or the Tikka, but I'll end up with a 6 creed build either way.

Ruger American 6.5 Creed, great right our of the box. Threw a basic Vortex Diamond back on it and it's my go to, all around, simple hunting rifle. Excellent ammo available EVERYWHERE.

In reality I should sell all but the Ruger and the Nucleus. build the Nucleus into a 6 creed and actually shoot the shit out of them.

budds is selling Thomson center bolt action in 6.5 creedmore for 350.00
299.00 after rebate.

I have a Ruger American in 7mm-08. It’s really low recoil. You can buy reduced recoil rounds also if needed. I paid $350 for it, a scope, and 2 boxes of ammo off of a guy who needed money. I’ve been very happy with it.

I hadn't really looked into the T/C, but the more I'm reading about them, I like them. CDNN has the Compass at $289 and the Venture at $399. Do you think the Venture is worth the extra $110?

Cabela's is advertising the Savage 110 Tactical for $650. I think "tactical" gets you a larger box mag, threaded barrel, 20 moa rail, and bigger bolt handle. Not sure that all adds up to the $250 price premium over something like the T/C though. As much as I prefer drop out magazines, I've taken more critters with my Win Model 70 and it only holds 4 rounds with one chambered.

i like my tc compass,
my friend has the venture.
they both shoot the same.
both
shoot better then i ever will.
the Compass gives you
more bang for buck.
the Venture has a better trigger. i can not tell ,and a special coating.

Well I was going to go the T/C route, then I found a deal on a used gun and will pick it up Sunday.

Ruger American Predator in 6.5CM, has AI conversion and original mag. Has Talley scope mounts/rings. Has Primary Arms 3-18X50 FFP scope. Located about an hour from me. Has 80rds of Federal ammo coming with it. $700. It's a little outside my budget but I sold a couple of things to get there. I'm excited to get it and sight it in.

This is the scope that's on it. Pretty interesting, looking forward to trying it out.

Whats the AI conversion? Do you mean it takes AICS mags? Thats not a conversion, thats a factory model. The Predator 6.5cm (and a few other calibers) are offered with either flush fit mags OR the AICS mags. There are several models like the Ruger precision and Scout and a few other Ruger American models that use the AICS mags. My buddy just picked one up yesterday at bass pro for $500. Gun, scope and 80rds for $700 is a pretty good.

AI = Ackley Improved. Acronyms absolutely suck. Speak English. Be clear. Be understood. If you want to communicate. AI 6.5 Creedmor ? It already is an "improved" design.

I'm pretty sure he's talking about the magazine thing. I think that the earlier ones had the rotary magazines.

No. Just no. AI magazines or AICS are Accuracy International Chassis System magazines. It has nothing to do with Ackley designed cartridges. He mentioned the rifle had an AI magzine conversion. I pointed out its not a conversion its a factory option. By the way anybody running AI mags the ruger branded ones are half the price of regular AI ones.

I know that. I know what he thinks he is saying. I am clarifying for the sake of the English language. That is all. There is another prior world of "AI" and it's not artificial intelligence.

Just going to say this once for Old timer's sake and the English language, grammar in general. AI as in Ackley Improved was used long, long long, at least two GENERATIONS before tactical fagotry requiring aftermarket magazines were sold to people that think they need one. Before there was a market for something not needed. This post never states he has other than a standard magazine. He states he has a weapon in 6.5 Creedmor that has been converted to AI. "Chassis Systems" LMAO. Is that a lifting brassiere ??? :lmao:

If anyone is on a budget for a HUNTING BOLT gun, the last thing they require is more systems to fuck around $$$$ with. Before a trigger, decent glass, having the action trued and accurized. Not accessorized.

I dont think it has anything to do with earlier or later (I maybe wrong). The predator short action rifles (.243, 6.5CM, .308) are available in a flush mag and AI mags. I didnt realize the 4 round flush mags were rotary. I thought it was a double stack.

I saw this after searching for what a 6.5 AI was thinking it stood for Ackley Improved.

It only cost me $19 + shipping to get it too. The conversion will only work if you have one of the green stocks with the removable mag section like in the pic.

Why isn't this anywhere on the forum, internet, or youtube? I can't be the only one wanting to change from the rotary mags without spending $$ for an entire stock replacement.

Good to know. My buddy wanted the AI mag but the counter guy talked him into buying the flush mount. I have the AI mag on my predator and use the same mags for it, my 6.5 rpr, and my 6.5, .260 and .308 700 rems.

Only thing better than AI mags are AW mags but I doubt the Ruger action is cut for the AW mags. Id have to do some research to see if it could even be done

Supposedly the American and RPRs can use the AW mags but the front of the magwell needs to be cut out a bit. I havent done it personally so I cant verify.

Front of the mag well, as in the chassis/stock?

It shouldn't be a mag well cut since dimensionally on the body the mags are the same. The cut that's made is opening up the front bottom of the action to allow the double stack to tilt up and feed reliably.

Could be I dont have any of the AW mags. Just what I was told by someone trying to talk me into buying some. They may be better but my AICS mags work just fine so I dont see the need to spend the money on new mags.

Ditto,....im have one also

If youre looking at the vortex diamondback for a 6.5cm check out the tactical version. Its a very good quality budget scope. 6x24-50 FFP moa or mrad. It will help take advantage of the cartridge without breaking your budget.
