I just pulled this propane carb off the Hough. Engine is a IH C135 or at least of that family. Carb bore is approx 1.25". Intake bore is approx 1.75" and the propane kit came with a reducer adapter. Engine is in the 30-40hp ballpark.

Carb is an updraft carb and draws in the side. Looking from the top down with the input at 12:00 the throttle lever is on the right side.

Any reason I can't run a Chinese aftermarket copy of a Zenith like this?

A carb is a carb, right? As long as it's about the right size for the flow rate and has the features I need (choke, etc) it should just work, right?

I have a Bridgeport so it's not like the bolt holes not lining up is an issue.

Here's the propane carb I pulled off and the power curve for the engine or at least what it was 70yr ago.

Yes I posted this in my shop thread but we all know that Chit Chat is where the real tech happens.

Call Carey Gleason who might be on here and get a new 1 barrel lp carb. Probably pretty cheap and propain is awsome for limited use motors. My fancy pants lp carb thingy was only $100 through him

any reason to not fix the propane setup?
I way dig propane on equipment, because it can sit forever and then fire right up without fucking around

My 6k is dual. It has weird (to me) venturi propane carb - it's upstream of the regular gas carb and the intake airflow is what operates the venturi - no linkage. I bought a brand new replacement propane carb for $129....and shortly after found a rebuild kit for $40. :homer: We tore down the gas carb a couple weeks ago it was pretty much full of schmoo. Figures, I also found that there was no fuel filter cartridge in the filter housing. :shaking: Disassembled it as much as it would allow and soaked it in the ultrasonic for an hour or so. I'd say it's back to about 90%. Can't find a rebuild kit, but can get a replacement for about $190 so eventually I'll go that way. Seems to work fine now, except I think the accel pump is probably leaking because it'll die if you stomp on the gas....but it's fine if you feather it for about the first 25%.

What's wrong with the carb you have? Have you torn it down to see if it's cleanable and/or rebuildable?

Depending what propane setup is on it, I'd also be tempted to keep it.

Because I don't want one propane machine when everything else I own is gasoline. I can't siphon propane out of one of my cars at 11pm on a Sunday if the loader runs out of fuel. Also my 5gal gas cans sit long enough that having a larger machine around to help run through them will be a good thing.

Something is fucked up about the regulator and it doesn't run. Or that's what happened 10+yr ago last time it ran. I don't want to fuck with it. I don't need extra variables like a questionable propane conversion. I don't want to fuck around with a toothbrush cleaning corrosion off of shit. I want to slap a "probably good enough" Chinese rebuild of something on this and be done.

This is gonna get driven enough to warm up almost every weekend and a Chinese carb is $50.

well okay then, yeah if the power output figures are similar and the carb you're putting on has both high and low jets screw adjustable then go for it
lotta times the high jet is fixed though, so be aware of that

Amazon has carbs for Ford 8n tractor for like $40. FWIW
