What's new

Reagan movie

I may or may not have played hooky from work to see it wile my wife was off work.
Oh, theaters have come a LONG way since I used to go. They’ve got a damn bar and cocktails now, and electric recliners where there’s no way in hell you can kick someone's chair/vice versa, and no way someone with an Abe Lincoln hat in front of you can block your view!

Somebody pushed thru and bankrolled a mainstream movie about defeating communism, don't be a fag and buy a $7 ticket to see it:flipoff2:

I took my 15yo and it was well done, good enough she didn't scroll tictok till it was over
I haven't been in a movie theater in probably 10 years. Movie was Fury and I ended up falling asleep.

I'd probably fall asleep before the previews were through in a recliner.

Did they include an honest assessment of the Iran Contra....I don't know what to call it, "deal", maybe. RR had me till that time. It seems all our administrations are corrupt to the people.
Are they going to cover all the other terrible shit he did as well like the Mulford Act, the 1986 amendments to the NFA, expansion of Federal involvement in education and the National Minimum Drinking Age Act, amnesty for 3 million illegals, the escalation of the War on Drugs, 186% increase in the national debt under his administration, and the expansion of Social Security?

Fuck Reagan.

Fuck Reagan.
This guy summed it up perfectly. Fuck Ronnie.

Fuck Reagan.
And he's not special, fuck every president in the last 60years or so.

While I agree with that sentiment most of those aren't worshipped like Reagan was. He is considered the "ideal conservative" by alot of people (especially boomers) and was actually a huge piece of shit who signed rights away as fast as the pen would move and that is the kind of conservatism they want back. So fuck that guy in particular.

Exactly. Authoritarian social conservatives aren't any better than the authoritarian far left. Same bullshit, different religion.

Most of you twats have no clue how angry some were that Iran got away with taking US citizens hostage. And Reagans Starwars plan was cool too. I thought of it first. The rest of your drivel is hindsight is 20/20 BS.:flipoff2:
At least Reagan wasn't the former head of the CIA. Even I knew that was BS.

I might add your choices were reelect Jimmy Carter or RR, not a hard decision unless you're stupid.
Second term he was running against Mondale, another easy choice if you are not stupid.
Voted for him twice, it is what it is.:usa:
I fully understand why people voted for him, but him being a shitty President is an entirely different discussion than who he ran against. I'd have voted for him in both those elections as well, doesn't mean I wouldn't criticize poor decisions. My issues with Reagan aren't with people voting for him, they're with his policies and the fact that he's heavily romanticized.

Same thing with George W. Bush. History has been very forgiving to him when it's not warranted. Yeah, he was a hell of a lot better choice than Al Gore or John Kerry, but who isn't?

Can't speak for anyone else but I had my choice of jobs during RR, gas was cheap, the world feared us and the country had a sense of pride. The down side were much higher interest rates. We are world's apart from that now....

.

Regan had the economics right, but his domestic and foreign policy's were shit.

The worst part of Regans presidency was Nancy. The war on drugs is the most costly war ever. And drugs won......
Not only that, she set precedent for the First Lady being actively involved in the administration and that's been the case ever since. First Lady isn't a fucking job, it's an honorary title. The last thing we need is another unelected person at the highest level of the executive branch. Being married to the President doesn't make you qualified to influence policy.

Yep. And it hasn't changed in 40 years.
Yeah it has, slowly, but it's definitely changed. The social conservatives still have a loud voice, but they're not influencing policy anywhere near as much as they once were. Got plenty of boomers who want to go back on that, but generally Gen X and Millenial Republicans have really moved away from it.

What scares me is younger Gen Z and Alpha. A lot of them are really wholesale rejecting all this far left nonsense but as a result of the pendulum swinging a lot of them have turned into a bunch of little far Christian right neo-fascists because it's the only way for them to rebel. Hopefully they move more centered over time.
