Ray Charles Tacoma build

Got the shocks tacked on and cycled everything 69k times to make sure nothing hits, really tight clearance but everything is working as it should. Had to shorten track bar bracket so the bolt wouldnt hit the tie rod at full bump. All that's left is mock up bumps, limit straps, plate a few things and final weld

Hate to be that guy, but I don't see that panhard mount lasting. They get so much more force on them than people realize. Not sure what you can do to get some more bracing there, but I'd definitely add something.

Also, I'm sure you are planning it. But brace that upper link mount good also. All your axle wrap is on that one mount.

The track bar mount wraps under the frame so it should be plenty strong but we’ll find out lol.

I’ll probably add some side gussets to the upper link mount

It's just a lot of leverage.

You did a good job building it, but I think with weld over half way around that frame rail, it will eventually crack the frame or twist it. I see that it's good 2x3x188, but it can only take so much.

I would really think about trying to tie it I to something else. The opposite side frame rail or the shock tower/engine cage maybe?

I don't think it's a huge deal, but you could mimic how 4WU does their panhard mount... 3/16" plate in red.

Not a bad idea, I gotta stuff a bump can on the side closet to the coilover eyelt but may be able to plate that in a bit. Gonna do an engine cage later so that should stiffen up things as well

Like I said, not trying to be that guy, just hate seeing things fail after all the hard work. It might or it might not. But every time I see a failure on a front 3 link it's usually the panhard mount, and like 1/4 times in the upper link mount.

4wu has it ties into thier tower, kinda proving my point :flipoff2:

the 4wu kit doesn't "technically" tie into the tower... Towers are a) optional and b) the location is somewhat axle dependent. My cobra tower is in a different location than the picture you posted...

nitpicking...

Spent the 3 day weekend in the shop with 90+ temps lol. Got the front on its own weight, everything is 100% welded.

All I have left on the front is a crossover tube between the shock hoops and to put limit straps on

1 week left before Marlin roundup

Spent all weekend knocking out little tedious things, got axles plummed for air lines, brakes all hooked up, front end is done (waiting for limit straps to show up). Rear axle in with some temporary shocks thrown on (still need to add the air bumps)

Finally got it out in the sun for some forklift mall flexing

looking good man ! :dustin: maybe I missed it. what are you running for steering? looks like you did some sort of over the knuckle stuff. is it a kit? or some stuff you cobbled together? looks nice whatever it is.

Thanks! It is a prototype high steer kit from Synergy Manufacturing. It hasn't been officially released yet so I can't post photos until they do.

Hoping to test it out here in the next few weeks and see how it holds up to tons and 40s

oh I see. ill be interested how it holds up. I'm also running an 05+ sd60 and looking to get away from the factory steering that came with it. due to space constraints, most HI steer kits seem to be TOO high.

Welp, so much for the Roundup, I see on FB it's been canceled....

Ya, killed myself for nothing lol. Gonna take a break from the rig and hit Dusy Ershim this wkend with some buddies then get back to it.

All thats left are
shorten rear drive shaft
relocate battery to bed
install hydro assist
rear bumpstops
A pillar tube to tie into shock hoops

Dusy was fun, went in the northside and camped at Ershim lake, some decent obstacles on the way. Got to cold so we bailed early and left Saturday. High 30s at night and 60 during the day. We just didn't bring enough warm clothes because its been 105 at home lol.

Went in with our buddy Russ and his minty 1st gen

Was going to get everything hooked back up and drive the truck out this weekend but my dumb ass decided why not engine cage it. Got most of the tube work done. I am trying to figure out how to tie in the front tube over the core support. Tire gets into the frame area where I want to add a tube and the steering box is in the way. May just tie it into a front bumper
