Why no loop around the prop?

Thanks. Not sure what you mean, maybe it's the angle of that pic?

It wraps around the back and and clamps on (2 piece) like a clamshell. It's a copy of one that I've been running for the past 10 years or so, which has worked great.

A circle around the prop (shown in red) would protect against glancing against a log or stick lengthwise (shown in green).

I realize you can't protect from every scenerio without going full box expanded mesh which really kills performance. Just seems it would tie all the bars together nicely and add a touch more protection. Could use thin flatbar for it.

I'm sure I've seen prop guards that were only the hoop.

Gotcha. This design has been working great for where I take my boat (shallow and rocky), so I figured why fix what isn't broken.
