What's new

Random stuff you made.

1800's cabin now our WV deer camp. Needed some counter space and this used to be a floor to ceiling cabinet. When it was done we thought it'd be a cool spot for the old timers that are chasing deer through the pearly gates.

The fact that you remember who you had good times with is most important. Money can't buy stuff like that.

is this printed on a insulated cup or candle or something?
I'd be interested in a couple of insulated tumblers if she is willing to sell some?
PM me if you wish.
I don't know the exact procedure, but it's an insulated tumbler, I'll shoot her a text about your inquiry.

Got any more info on the carriage? I am not seeing any rollers, does it just slide on the teflon?
Original plan was to use spring loaded wheels. Was thinking the trolley could roll freely but with 50-100lbs of pressure it would disengage the wheels and bottom out on the beam to keep it planted. But I got lazy.

Because it is outside on unlevel ground I don’t want the load shifting too easily so I used a cutting board for the “Teflon “ sliders. Hopefully it will slide easily with no load and stay planted with weight on it.

A buddy works for Milwaukee tools and informed me they reinstated the friends and family pricing for tools and batteries. I friggen loaded up on stuff I have been eyeing for a while. I needed a place to keep all the batteries. I drew this up on solidworks and had a buddy cut it on his plas table. I was blown away at the cut quality on 1/8 AL. He sells stuff on etsy, so we have a pretty sweet agreement. I draw stuff with his logo, give him the files so he can sell it online, and I get the prototype for free.

I'm a page late for the wood splitter talk but here's mine. I have to add the rear cylinder for the wedge adjustment and it will be totally done. Also my three boys putting it to work for the first time on Saturday.

looks good.

also plas is great, i use mine almost every day. the biggest bennefit to getting a plas table has been learning who else to send files to for better cuts and production.

Repost from the shiddy weld thread but I'm proud how it turned out in the end. Had to make a new point for an old slate hammer. These are kind of obsolete now in my area so it was cool to keep a little bit of the old school way of things alive

That is really nice. Is the handle stacked discs or wound?

Might want to put either a piece of mesh or a piece of solid steel in the slot over that ram so that you can't have a stick or a bunch of bark get jammed in there and bend it.
Otherwise it looks great.

Are you talking on the log lift? I will keep an eye on it but I've spent some serious hours with this other splitter and never had an issue at all.

Looks like stacked leather. I just (well 2 years ago) redid an old hatchet, trim hammer, and a slate hammer similar to that. It started as just doing the hatchet which was my dads, then mine when I was a scout and I ended up doing all of them. I made a punch and spent about an hour making ovals.

Stacked discs, I got lucky and they're all there and in good condition. Once one goes the handles never right again no matter what you do to it

Got a link for history/research on this

Found this hatchet head next to a stone wall on my property while metal detecting. It was a normal hatchet head shape with a nail notch but was rusted really bad near the notch.

I reshaped it to what it is now and made the handle out of a broke handle from my splitting maul.

The edge steel is super hard, this thing had been in the ground for many years to get the pitting it has.

I bought a Guatemalan sheath off amazon and modified it by flipping it, trimming and adding a couple of rivits.

Careful with multiple kids working a splitter, make sure the one loading the log is the only one pulling the handle. I have a neighbor who's a finger short and know another kid with a short finger both because they got the timing off loading the splitter.

Riding mower engines make great hydraulic power packs, the pump doesn't care if it's vertical. I've got a 10hp on mine for the same reason. Electric start is handy in the cold too.

If you've been following along the past few years you might remember that I make some random folk art I find on Pinterest or FB or wherever every year for the wife's X-mas. She digs it and it gives me something to create for her. I usually save images throughout the year of cool projects and then pick one to knock out. This year pics have been hard to come by as my FB and pinter time is hampered a lot with the new job. Saw this little thing last week and put my spin on it. Body was a spark plug in the OP but I didnt have one laying around. I did have a busted ratchet though so body and head it became. Couple concrete nails, some flat stock, little oxy/ace, hammering and welding and viola!
