I’ve been running a 1:1.5 ratio Howe quickener mounted-coupled directly to the steering box for 3 seasons (about 10 - 1 hour races and about 1 or two trail weekends a season).
Same box and fluid for 8 years total. I put fluid in when I lose a bit from being upside down. I did blow a box way before the quickening from using a tow dolly to get around for the first few years.
I just have the stock steering cooler loop in front of the rad. The box gets HOT enough to bake the mud when the rest of the truck is wet.
The mounting of the quickener to be DIRECTLY inline with the steering box was the hardest part. I found when setting it up, wheels in the air and turning the wheel, it would be free and smooth until locking down the mounting bolts. I tried shimming, and re welding the mount a few times. I couldn’t get the bind of about .005-.003 off centre out of my mounting setup. In the end I threw a rag joint in, and all bind went away when tightened down.
I think some peoples experience in our sport may have overlooked how critical the mounting can be. I too did read all the stuff I could find on the old place, and from my own experience I can say most of the negative results others had might not be from the things they think.
You could mount it so it could be taken out super easily, and just put a longer steering shaft in.
Sorry I don’t have pics. The rug is not close by atm.
Here’s a pic of the quickener though. Mine is actually the early model of this one a circle track friend handed me.
That’s about all the beans I can spill on the topic.
