Anybody have a source for quality leather work gloves? Pretty tired and frustrated of buying ones that seem to wear out way too fast. My dad has a few pairs that have been in his truck box for more than 10 years.

Would like to buy some that won’t be wearing out after three months of use. I found some at Ace Hardware that if you’re very selective and pick out individual ones you get a little bit better life from but they all seem to use the cheapest leather available.

I finally gave up expecting gloves to last any significant time. gave up trying to take special care to extend the life too.

Pretty much just keep a stack of these handy:

That said, I will be watching this thread to see what "new tech" may be available.

I get the ones that are maybe $25 for a dozen. They work decent against oil too. Usually last 2-3 weeks before they wear through.
Last batch i found at Napa for $15, Grease Monkey brand.

In the winter I switch to the insulated grey Atlas version as the Grease Monkey ones won't flex and crack apart when it's -40*

I like wearing gloves so I can keep my hands decently clean and um not getting oil all over the phones, trucks, computer, papers, etc.

I have a variety of brands, and pretty sure I have grease monkey in the mix. I do like the milwaukee grippy surface better than the shiney type ones. I have gotten accustomed to the dexterity available with little things as compared to heavier gloves. And fairly impervious to sharp edges while fabricating. The backsides are crap around welders tho. :lmao:

I go through 5-8 pairs of leather gloves per year at home (house / yard require work I'm not paying someone else to do).

Wells Lamont Hydra Hyde was my top performer but they now have a "same-but-different" cheap version that's low-grade dog shit, so caveat emptor and fuck them for making a Costco version :mad3:

Assuming decent construction, materials are the key to glove longevity.
  • Cowhide holds up best to heat / fire but is only better than pig for abrasion
  • Goatskin is much stronger than cowhide and will last far longer
  • Deerskin is a close second to goatskin for overall life
  • Pigskin is comfy but wears out quicker than the other 3
  • Grain leather is much stronger than split hide / suede
I trust that will sufficiently confuse your decision-making process

EDIT: and for anything that doesn't need leather gloves, my go-to is 8 mil nitrile N-Dex gloves. I wash & reuse them until they fail, they're that good.

5-8? WTF

Last 2 years were our first 2 years at our "new" house that the OG owners built 50 years ago & lived in for 45 of 'em. Lots of heavy yard work, hand digging & grading, gravel / rocks, creek maintaining, root cutting, dumpster filling, firewood fuckery, brick walk unfucking - just general good fun :rasta:

2 fucking hippies can leave a lot of deferred maintenance on an acre in half a century  . . . :frown:

I go through a minimum of 5 pairs a month. Oilfield is a lot harder on gloves though. If your dad has 10 year old gloves, it’s because they rarely get used. I plan on ruining a pair of gloves every weekend I work on race cars. It seems like a miracle if a pair lasts a couple weeks.

These HF ones are my current go tos for normal, everyday shit. Not good for oily/greasy shit, obviously. Also don't hold up well to welding.

I have a pair of these that I am pretty happy with:

They have lasted me a few years, but they mainly sit just inside the door of my truck on the floor for when I need to load or unload something. Worst I ever had was when I carried block one summer. I went through a lot of gloves. I found that dipping the fingers in PlastiDip for tool handles helped them last more then one day.

I dont wear gloves all that often. And hate thick gloves.

Work provided mechanixs gloves, so thats what I used the most if I needed gloves. They were good for a day or two at best.

As far as leather gloves go, grab whatever is local that is half way decent and fits good. Buy a few as they are going to wear out, thats just what they do

only way gloves last 10 years is if your aren't using them.

I like my Lincoln Electric Metal Working gloves. Napa work gloves seem good too. No issues for the last six months with some good use

Youngstown. They last the longest and are the most comfortable for me.

Yep

But as stated, gloves don’t last for shit when they get used. They are disposable

These last a really long time

Used to wear mule hide gloves they were cheap and stiff when you first put them on about the time you had them broke in good they would start falling apart:flipoff2:

I like Tillmann 1420 gloves. I burn through a pair about every month. And that is with me re-stitching the seams when they blow out after doing a retarded amount of welding and grinding. Barbed wire fence will play hell with them pretty quickly too.

We buy Tillman 1414s at work, they last pretty well for the price.

Personally I like a synthetic leather if you need them to last and aren't doing something that involves fire. We used the revco 99 plus às a mechanics glove when I was in oilfield and got surprisingly good life out of them.

I buy the $20 deer skin ones at the farm store.

An insulated pair will last me the winter.

The Milwaukee goat skin ones have been durable, but they cost almost 2x more so not really saving anything.

This. I smoke gloves constantly. Nothing out there lasts.

These area my favorite leather gloves.

For general shooting and "lighter" tasks like PIG gloves. But they are more like mechanix gloves. Need to catch them on closeout sale in odd colors to get a break in price

I wear out a pair of pigskin gloves about every week. I wear through the Index finger tips and break the stitches in the sides of the thumbs. The rubberized Kevlar ones are fine for some jobs but don’t last any longer. Lucky me, the employer provides them.
