"What's It Worth" thread...

Alright so not a tech thread but I built an '88 4Runner for my Dad back in '14 or so and he's wanting to sell it. I want to make sure he doesn't let it go for peanuts, but especially with the recent vehicle prices it's tough to see what it's worth currently. I searched and didn't find much but there are a few stock 4Runners for sale locally for $10k - not sure what they'll sell for but that's what they're listed at. Thoughts? This is in CA so out of state pricing probably not as relevant...

Specs:
'88 Toyota 4Runner with working A/C
Currently 231k on the ticker
22re was rebuilt in '05 or so, head gasket later replaced at 186k
TG header and 2-1/4" exhaust - I told him to go 2-1/4" anyway, but might be stock. I know he's replaced the catalytic in the past 5 years
5-speed trans that was sent in and completely rebuilt by Marlin Crawler a few years back
I put a new Aisin clutch package in when I built it in '13 - I'd assume that's still in there now
Dual xfer cases with 2.28 in each - not positive, but I want to say it was a TG adapter
Standard Toyota drivelines that were lengthened/shortened to work
TG 4" leaf springs front and rear
Front axle is a stock width TG Rock Assault housing with longfields, High Pinion 5.29s and Detroit locker - axle setup and installed by Yotamasters a few years ago
Rear axle is stock IFS housing with tampon armor welded to the diff, stock shafts, V6 5.29s and Detroit locker
Front frame all plated and gusseted to front crossmember, front crossmember plated with 3/16" in front where bumper welded to it
Rancho 9000 shocks front and rear
Custom front and rear bumpers, built by me - 1-3/4" DOM - rear bumper has receiver hitch welded in
Custom rock sliders, built by me - 1-3/4" DOM - main tube sleeved

Clean rig, stock interior with run of the mill stereo. It's only got about 10k miles on it since I did all the work to it. I think it's good to go as-is, although most people would probably be best off upgrading the shocks and putting a roll cage in it. The front springs I think are a little worn or something, and may need replaced - not much uptravel, although had a lot of uptravel when I first built it. Overall in good shape, clean, ready to drive or wheel. He hasn't driven it that much over the past 10 years, mostly just stored in his garage.

I'm thinking it's worth at least $15k? But I almost would have thought it was worth that pre all the madness of the past couple years and current prices. I don't know any more... Thoughts? Tree fiddy? :grinpimp:

Couple build pics, since I'm looking through them. Sorry to post in tech forum, just want to see it sell at least for what it's worth - makes me sick that he's selling, although I get it...

True, although my counterpoint, in addition to all the retardation and fluctuations in pricing the past year and a half, would be this:

Who knows what they're actually selling for - just what I'm seeing...

Which is why I'm going to keep my 83...
Fukk Matt's taco glad it Left.

And fwiw the 83 was a 2k stocker round 15 yrs ago...

And I've bought front axles for $500 or less - try doing that now:homer:

ok, my kid just sold a 1995 240sx.
what sold it was a detailed list of everything done like pages of everything in detail. and a 30 min walkaround video, the video was VERY complete, and candid. he was very open about everything. first guy showed up with cash in hand and no no issues with the price

looking at the pics, I'm guessing $15k is not out of the question, if it really is turnkey.

It's turnkey enough to start driving daily right now with the a/c blowing cold... My dad's the type of guy that'll buy a fresh pair of New Balance's and eat a Costco hotdog while he's waiting for them to road force balance his tires, all because he 'though he felt a vibration'

One of his hobbies is taking vehicles in for an alignment. They couldn't align this thing at one point (which I told him not to do with this thing with a solid axle) - but they told him the axle was bent, so he dropped it off at Yotamasters and paid for a new Rock Assault and install. I was pissed because he didn't ask me about it first, and he bought a stock width axle and still has to run the wheel spacers on it:barf::lmao:

Market is hot right now, but I see that primarily in the “must be new enough to bolt stuff onto”, the market for vehicles that one must have ability to work on isn’t as crazy. Might take a bit at $15, I’m sure at $10-12 it would sell quick.

Is you dad upgrading to a Gladiator? :flipoff2:

Nice truck Chris
GLWS

Thanks!

I don't know the model name, but he just bought a newer Jeep something or other so he could tow it behind his motorhome:barf: He didn't want to have to disconnect the rear driveshaft every time. I don't blame him, he's retired and his joints are getting creaky:homer:

Well, FWIW, sold tonight for $12,500 for anyone doing pricing research. I do think he could have gotten more since it was only for sale fore 5 days though... I was just getting ready to list it on Expedition Portal to see what that'd bring, but someone showed up with cash and I just told him to take it...
