Would like a metal brake. HF one seems nice for the 300 dollars. Says I can bend 12ga up to 18". What would I need to bend 1/8 up to 30-35"? I have zero experience with this type of thing.

sorry for mistyped title.

What do I use to drive the brake?

I just got the 20t press, its not this wide, do you mount it perpendicular in the opening?
If you use your own dies you can. If you usethe SWAG kit you can't because it has the retractor springs on the side that will get in the way.

For something like a 3ft bend in a 1ft press I'd have no problem feeding the part back and fourth while doing the bend in 1ft stages with a decent amount of overlap.

Do you actually need a 35" bend, or does that just sound good? That's a big bite in 1/8".

Cut/bend size is like horsepower- it doesn't go up linearly.

I'd find one of the 30" HF shear/brakes used, and go up as you need.

I just picked up a 40" combo for $200 on Marketplace. The seller said "I guess I should have listed it for more!"

if you want one hit bend for something that wide, then start looking for a 50-ton H-frame press.

And go for this:

Yep, what he ^^^ says....

The Accupress calculator is fun to play around with to see how length and die size affect tonnage needed: Accurpress Tonnage Calculator

1/8" x 18" long = 16 ton:

1/8" x 25" long = 23 ton:

1/8" x 35" long = 32 ton:

All have the 8x thickness die opening multiplier.

SWAG makes 40" and 50" versions, but at that point you're likely building your own press. They recommend two 20T jacks for a 40" press and three 20T jacks for a 50" press.

Agree with the others - more info is needed. One and done? Slot or grind a groove, bend, and reweld. Production runs? You're probably talking stepping up to something like this: BP-4830 Tilting Beam Hydraulic Press Brake - 48" wide and up to 8ga.
