Guess motorcycles, atvs, dirt bikes, and mountain bikes are going to fall under OSR now?

2001 KX500 Last of the 500 2 strokes. Don't get it out to ride as much as I would like, but it puts a big smile on my face every time I tak it out.

KTM 690, really like having the electric start over my XR650Rs I had. Even selling both of them didn't caver the price of the KTM.

Kinda annoyed that a new 11K bike needs a new exhaust and quite a few mods to get it up to snuff. I guess that is just the way it is with dirtbikes now.

Why does it need an exhaust and mods to be up to snuff, what's your comparison? My 350 EXC-F was leaps and bounds better out of the box than any of the comparable offering by the Japs. I put an exhaust and tuner on it just because I can't leave anything stock. It didn't actually need it though...

The exhaust on the 690 runs super hot, right next to the fuel tank. Going to the wings or Acro exhaust cuts the heat significantly and looses probably 10 lbs, if I remember right.
The headlight sucks if you try to ride at highway speed at night swapped to a baja designs unit, 3X the output. Steering stabilizer, which wasn't 100% necessary.
Rear subframe bolts, which are necessary. Revised fuel cap to replace the weird inset factory one, which will get dust and mud in the tank.
Ausi air filter to correct the poor airbox design. Lower temp thermostat switch to turn on the fan earlier. Seat concepts seat over the factory 2x4. All of which are necessary.

Also added some guards, skid plates revised shift and brake levers. ditched the factory dual mirrors, they sucked for a better single mirror.

There is still no real competition for the 690 the Japanese 650 are all ancient designs with low power and too much weight. They are also a lot cheaper.

The KTMs are great bikes, they have developed and are filling a lot of market segments that the Japanese aren't even in.
I just think for the price that KTM charges it shouldn't need so much, but without a whole lot of competition I doubt it will change.
Don't regret buying the bike, nothing on the market compares to it and it rides great.

2017 KTM Duke 390, recently sold this one.

2013 yamaha fz8

Had a FZ09. Had to sell it. That thing was dumb. That thing was WAY too much power. After 30m of riding, I discovered I could no longer keep my dick in my pants.

Current rides:

DR650 nicely done up currently with split cases :homer:

GSX650F I just picked up a few weeks ago:

The GSX is fantastic. Did a little 100 miles on it today. Came with all the luggage, race pipe, Sargent seat, bar risers, and Ohlins suspension. 7k miles. Short money too.

I miss having a bike, but fucking NJ people on the cells all the time. I trust myself, but I don't trust any of them further than I could throw them.

DRZ400-SM. Pretty sweet bike, but I’m easily impressed, since it’s the only bike I’ve ever had that’s fully functional.

Getting ready to get my wife an XT250. She’s only ever ridden the DRZ a couple times, and I think something shorter and lighter would be much better for her.

Post #1 starts with motorcycles then dirt bikes ?yes?
No American dirt bikes have no following you are right!
I get the japs build great shit

Back in the day racing harescrambles. This was the best bike I’ve ever owned through all the yamahammers I’ve owned since my first one in the mid 70’s. This was a YZ250 2 stroke. Like all my previous bikes it was highly modified, I did the suspension my self on this bike. Scott’s steering stabilizer, big tank, tall seat, engine work etc etc.
