I served mostly during the “Cold War”, but I did get to do some stuff

13 months in Korea, the end of my tour was spent on the DMZ

A few years later I was stationed in the Panama Canal Zone right after Noriega was evicted, lost a good friend in an ambush right before I came home

Managed to hang on to the flak and Kevlar from my last deployment...was in good with my supply guys. The plate carrier I bought with my own money back in the day, when we could use them
..they changed the rules up later on that. Click image for larger version Name:	20200611_215204.jpg Views:	0 Size:	258.5 KB ID:	36840

I got out in ‘92, but I managed to hang on to a bunch of random TA-50 items. Fast forward 20+ years, my son-in-law needed a couple things before a deployment (He’s in the 10th Mountain Div), I was able to hook him up with stuff I had in storage

My wedding ring. My grandfather made it during ww2 out of a half dollar. He said they would flatten them out by hitting it with a spoon over and over again. Apparently, he had some downtime. 😊 It was in my safe for years. I wore it on my wedding day, then back in the safe it went.

That's fucking awesome.

thanx for the memories \remembrance

Unfortunately I tossed pretty much all of my stuff. I was severely disgruntled when I got out.

I hear ya, I didn’t quite grasp the title of “Veteran” until a few years ago

When I got out I figured I had nine years worth of stories and some bragging rights, not much else. I see things differently now

I don't have photos of them, but I have some of my mother and father's camo jackets and equipment from their 20+ years in the Army. He was drafted.

My Mother also has medals from her father for dropping a bomb down the smoke stack of a Japanese ship, sinking it.

I'm right with this same thought. Got out of the Army in 97, I'm not certain how I spent four years in the military and there are no photos. Five years ago, my boss came into my office and asked are you a veteran, then handed me a box. It sits proudly on my office windowsill. It has a little solar panel on the back and lights up at night.

Awesome. My wife's grandfather served in the 10th Mountain Division back in WWII in Italy. I've been to their WWII training camp in CO as a kid.
