Post up rare, custom, or just plain weird trucks!

This shrunken down Tacoma sits on a shortened heavily modified Chevy Suburban chassis and packs a 5.3L LM7 running a 4l80 transmission, it's also 4WD. I don't know about you guys but this thing is effing cool! I'm sure it rides like a rocket!

It belongs to a guy in Crooksville, Ohio.

 solid rear suspension + a flex coupler where the driveshaft should be, or maybe IRS?

I hope it's IRS because a solid axle would suck to make cycle in a not shitty way with that length but the donor vehicle would seem to imply otherwise.

Regardless, it probably drives like ass with that wheelbase and track width.

Chopped up suburban, probably solid rear axle and just a short rear shaft. It isn't something that appears to have or need more than a few inches of travel

Unless you like having a good chance of winding up in the trees after every mid-corner pothole you're gonna want more than the 2" it's probably limited to for drive shaft reasons.

Easy enough to make the suspension work, but hell, leaf springs are free. It'd be fine.

Wider is better.

It'd probably got 6" yoke to yoke at least.

Just picked up this truck to haul the trencher around. The bed is like a mini winch truck bed. Has a big pto hydraulic winch by the cab. 11' bed that is 102" wide. Has a roller on the back of the bed. And a reverse fifth wheel ball that can be swapped for a gn ball. From the looks of the back of the bed it appears they were using it like a winch truck and dragging boxes or trailers up the back like the big boys do. Tempted to put jib poles on it:flipoff2:

Here's one I picked up for my 1957 International S180 4x4 that had a hacked beyond repair pole setting bed. It's a Leland that was sold in Billings MT so I'm sure it was oilfield.

I like that with the integrated poles on the side. Can the poles extend to be longer for the jib? Most the ones I see you have to have the poles stuck in the A-Frame and sticking over the cab a few feet which makes hauling a GN a pain. Out on the farm we had an old straight truck that we took the sides off of and put jib poles on and a winch. Thing was handy as shit for picking stuff up and hauling it around. I Have a 20' connex out back and am tempted to see if I can winch it on the back and move it around the yard :flipoff2:

Yes, the poles extend. It was sold by Pierce Sales out of Billings and has a big Pierce electric winch on it. I picked it up out of Butte for $500. Flatbeds for older 1.5 tons can be hard to find because the newer 8 foot wide ones are wider than what the old trucks had originally. I looked for a narrow dually flatbed for a while before this one showed up. It also means I'm putting the big mid ship PTO winch back on the truck and taking the Pierce one off the bed.

Per internet lore...

shortened Avalanche frame... and 4wd status seems to be urban legend...

Fred had posted up some more info on that on instagram. Shortened Tahoe frame and rear wheel drive
My hangup was re: rear suspension, if any. Based on where the tranny tailshaft & diff yoke would have to be, I'm thinking axle is mounted solid or they swapped to IRS. Either way, it's probably better to look at than to drive

Discount steel was the first (in this area that I know of) that sold drops in a retail setting.
Air conditioned warehouse with organized material.
A huge game changer for me and other DIY types as you guys already know.

I have heard that Wilbanks does a similar per pound drop sales but never experienced it.
hell even metal supermarkets discounts their remnants if you ask
they're where I get my 4340 for axle shafts, always ask the guy at the counter "hey what's the best price you can give me on the rest of that stick, I'll use it eventually" and they'll generally toss it in at cost to avoid using the saw

you sorta get it winched on to the balance point, if you don't got enough space in front of the roller to get it off the ground you could chain the front of the container down to the bed with a couple comealongs to pick up the back
