What's the red thing?
Is that the mother of all pie safes or what?
The man says he's "training stables" and he looked similar to Wyatt Earp so I'm gonna think dog box's, also the reason for the stairs on the back.

Wow, I've heard about the texas location of discount steel for decades but never figured I'd see it in a picture.

quit going to the minneapolis one a few years ago because they went full-retard 'retail store'
they cater to idiot retail customers really well
a 'good steelyard' they are no longer

No fuckin way, they did the same shit here, ruined a really bad ass local metal supplier.
After some "close early" bullshit they pulled on a several thousand $ aluminum order I mine I swore I'd I never be back, but here I am :emb:

They even caused some ex employees to open their own "short iron store" which bridged the gap for years, unfortunately they closed the location that was closest to me.

I used to could send them DXF s and get fast affordable quotes, now they want a "art" fee and Minneapolis has to look over it and some remote sales guy quotes it some insane xxxx price:flipoff:
I said I created the DXF for yah, what fuckin art are you gonna put on it?

I will say it's still a thing of beauty to be able to walk in and buy 6" of x of a 12"x12" sheet of hot rolled at $.50 per pound

HR drop was 1.00/lb last I was in there, and it's all little tiny useless bits of trash
CR was 1.50, stainless and aluminum were $4

fucking ridiculous, it used to be you could wander through the sheet warehouse to 'daves cave' where the big aluminum plate saw was, and you could go through his drops for a dollar a pound, big heavy aluminum in very useful sizes for someone with a bridgeport mill

wander over to garelicks down the street and nobody bitches at you for wandering through the yard looking at stuff, they're selling full fucking 5x10 sheets of P&O for 50 cents/lb because they got a couple dots of rust on an edge, and winnicks 20 mi north has 18' structural drops for 55 cents (and exchange welding gas bottles at actual wholesale prices)
Kinda knew it was coming when I started noticing "pronouns" in the email communications when getting quotes on pressbrake work.

Ooh and winnicks was the only place I saw around the cities where nobody behind the counter even pretended with the face diapers.

If you just need a drop of something real stupid that a normal supplier doesn't stock and won't sell less than a stick of they're still frequently the cheapest.

you're getting steel shipped to the NE from the midwest?

wtf that's fucking dumb
literally walk down the street to the next supplier, there's five of them in my area and like eight or twelve in the cities

It all comes from somewhere. Only difference is that my little order is getting broken off farther from me. When you think about the cost of generic parcel post vs the cost of adding a distinct item to a MDT that hauls steel around and the cost of warehouse space in Worcester vs Minneapolis it does kind of make sense in a perverse "optimizing for clown world" sort of way.

Yes, yes it is. But if I need something stupid like a 6" length of 6x2 bar stock" or a 3" length of some XXH pipe that nobody happens to be selling a drop of on eBay at that minute then it's what I wind up using.

There's about three in Worcester and I go to the only one that doesn't treat small customers like shit. They'll still make you buy a stick if it's something they don't stock and have fuck all chance of selling though. There's very little heavy industry here outside construction. All the manufacturing is plastic, medical and electronics.

Discount steel was the first (in this area that I know of) that sold drops in a retail setting.
Air conditioned warehouse with organized material.
A huge game changer for me and other DIY types as you guys already know.

I have heard that Wilbanks does a similar per pound drop sales but never experienced it.

Doesn't really seem like much of a poser...
Dont take me so seriously. The flatbed comment was in regards to the bone head that thinks you can only have a flatbed on a dually. My second comment was to see pics cause thats awesome. Cool truck!

This shrunken down Tacoma sits on a shortened heavily modified Chevy Suburban chassis and packs a 5.3L LM7 running a 4l80 transmission, it's also 4WD. I don't know about you guys but this thing is effing cool! I'm sure it rides like a rocket!

It belongs to a guy in Crooksville, Ohio.
