Someone needs to get back the mothership and drag the portal data over.

So much of the tech is outdated and links lead to nowhere.. Fact/spec and build threads would be awesome though.
I'm starting a 404 based rig project later this year and will post it up in here.

My buddy just put together his 404 front axle. On 40" Treps and 17" wheels it's just over 79" wide over all. That's about as narrow as you can get without cutting the axle.

Portals are a commitment and compromise. i just got my XJ rolling on 406/416 axles. 5" of front up travel ,75" to the roof on a 37" (my street rubber)

We still have several sets of 416's that I need to start working on again. I have CAD of the splines, snout adapters, flanges, etc. Just got sidetracked on a few other things but will be hitting this hard again this winter.

We will be offsetting the front axle ~5" to the driver's side. Which will require new front shafts but the rear will be left stock offset.

We did get a pinion snout from the guy in SC and a flange but the flange is for a 1410 and he didn't really want to remake them for a 1350 driveshaft joint.

That picture helps !
Could you possibly take a measurement of the width from the weel mounting surface to the CV joint center ?

Its very difficult to get a setup that has fair uptravel without stupid height. And it takes a massive amount of work to make the Merc axles fit.
Custom hubs, custom brakes , custom steering arms , custom oil pan, custom fuel tank, custom exhaust, pinion conversions, mine is also street driven ,I've got double ,double cardan drive line, a shock and spring setup to deal with the un sprung weight.... Im still tuning the thing but wheeled it a bit and put over 2k miles on this summer. I stopped turning wrenches on it so i didnt mentally flame out. next is getting the sway bar situation worked out then i need to cage it .

Everything on that setup is down to the last mm of clearance, Clarence.
Yup. Discs turned from 10mm mild steel plate bolted directly to the stock wm-flange. There's about 12mm of space between the flange and the portal housing.
Hub was turned down and drilled to fit regular 6 bolt jap size wheels.
I'm trying to stay with the stock Mog lug pattern as I have the wheels for it already. Time will show if I can fit brake calipers back there. :homer:

MoparMoe Don’t want hijack this thread. Can you put up a thread with your steering setup?

Dodge Ram on 406 here and using the factory merc arms flipped and bent.

I got all my pinion and disc conversion kit from the guys at exaxt ages ago. Happy to post some pics if it would be helpful.

Damn that's some beef! How much does that front weigh?
Not really sure now. Shipping when I got them with stock mog stuff was 850 with the crate it came in. With the 1" plate and 2" 1018 solid ram mount I would say I am close to that!

Here are the pinion guards I just made up for the pinion coversions. It is 1/2" and 3/8" plate welded to the original torque tube.

That is a 1410 flange yoke that will bolt to the splined flange in the picture.

Let me know if you guys want these models too.

Where are you guys finding mog axles at? I'm guessing they aren't any cheaper than hummer portals? Any advantage over the hummer stuff?

Bought a bunch of brand new in crate front axles 4 years ago? They were around $3600-4k each. They are very over build in comparison to the others. More or less your not breaking anything once they are in is my take anyways.
